World Matchplay Darts – Final Preview

Humphries is bidding to become just the fourth player to win the World Championship and World Matchplay in the same year.

Van Gerwen, Phil Taylor and Peter Wright are the other players to achieve the feat and Humphries is strongly fancied to add his name to the list.

The 29-year-old is chasing his fifth ranked major title in less than a year having also won the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship.

Humphries has won eight of his last nine meetings with Van Gerwen and will head into the final believing he can enhance that record.

Having overcome a tough draw to reach the final, it would be foolish to think Van Gerwen will make things easy for Humphries at the Winter Gardens.

He was excellent in the first round against Luke Littler and has followed up with three more solid victories to reach the final.

However, his finishing was not up to its usual standards in the semi-final against Michael Smith and will need to improve if he is to beat Humphries.

Odds of 2/1 on betting apps for Humphries to win the match, hit the most 180s and have the highest checkout could reward bettors on Sunday evening.
