Sports Betting News: Cheltenham Contenders Showcase Their Credentials

Jonbon delivered an efficient performance to secure his second consecutive victory in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on Friday.

He has now won 15 of his 18 starts and is rated as a 3/1 shot on horse racing betting sites to win the two-mile Champion Chase next March.

Read on as we look at the reaction to the performance before assessing how some other Cheltenham contenders have run over the past few days.

Highlights

  • Jonbon records workmanlike victory at Cheltenham.
  • Owen could be double handed in the Triumph.
  • Elliott hurdler tops the Cheltenham betting.

Jonbon Bags another Cheltenham Victory

Jonbon claimed his seventh Grade 1 victory in workmanlike fashion and will be a short price on betting apps to follow up in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown next month.

Trainer Nicky Henderson was delighted with the horse’s performance, claiming ‘his jumping was as good as I've seen from him’ after the race.

While Jonbon will probably mop up plenty of big races this season, it is worth noting that he has never previously won at the Cheltenham Fesitval.

East India Dock Lays Down a Triumph Marker

East India Dock was slashed to 10/1 on UK betting sites for the Triumph Hurdle after an impressive 18-length victory in a trial race at Cheltenham.

Trainer James Owen could have a strong hand in the race, with talented flat performer Lavender Hill Mob also expected to shine when he embarks on his hurdling career.

However, highly-touted French import Willy De Houelle could be tough to beat given that he has been dubbed a future superstar by owner Rich Ricci.

The Yellow Clay on Track for Cheltenham

New betting sites were forced to take evasive action after The Yellow Clay made it two out of two over hurdles in the Monksfield Hurdle at Navan.

The five-year-old is priced at 12/1 for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle and 16/1 for the Turners Novices' Hurdle following his ten-length victory.

He won with the minimum of fuss under jockey Jack Kennedy, and trainer Gordon Elliott will now aim him at a Grade 1 race at Naas in January.
