Royal Ascot 2024: Betting Trends for the Commonwealth Cup

A field of 15 sprinters will go to post for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on Friday for a race which has grown in prestige since it was first staged in 2015. 
 
The six furlongs contest has previously been won by some talented sprinters and this year’s edition contains several useful performers. 
 
We have studied the recent record books to uncover some key betting trends that we think will help you pick the winner of the 2024 Commonwealth Cup.

• 3/9 winners won on their last run before the Commonwealth Cup. 
• 7/9 winners had at least one previous run at Ascot. 
• 9/9 winners had at least one previous win over six furlongs. 
• 7/9 winners had a rating of 113 or higher. 
• 5/9 winners had at least one win that season. 

Fancied runners have done well in the Commonwealth Cup since it was first staged in 2015 and it may pay to focus on the runners at the head of the market on betting apps. 
 
Inisherin has been all the rage in the ante-post market for the race since storming to an impressive victory in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock. 
 
However, the well-backed Vandeek underperformed on that occasion, which raises serious questions about the validity of the form. 
 
Elite Status could be in contention after posting an eye-catching win in a Listed event at Newbury, although he has previously come up short at Group 1 level. 
 
Starlust boasts the highest rating in the race and previous trends suggest he is a horse who could run extremely well at an each-way price. 
 
Jasour makes the most appeal at odds of 5/1 on horse racing betting sites after winning a Commonwealth Cup trial over course and distance in May. 
 
Trainer Clive Cox saddled Golden Horde to win this race in 2020 and the son of Havana Grey can add another success to his tally.
