Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe: Betting Trends for the Longchamp Showdown

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is one of Europe’s most prestigious middle-distance races, attracting high-class horses from across the world.

This year’s event looks one of the most open in years, with several horses having a genuine chance of etching their name on the Longchamp roll of honour.

We’ve scoured the recent record books to identify three key betting trends that we think will help you pick the winner of this year’s Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Highlights

  • Three-year-olds have a great record.
  • Steer clear of St Leger winners.
  • Don’t rule out fillies and mares.

Keep an Eye on Progressive Three-Year-Olds

Three-year-olds have an excellent recent record in the Arc, with 12 winners from that age group winning the race since 2000.

Jean-Claude Rouget’s Ace Impact falls into that category and looks a worth favourite at odds of 3/1 on several leading UK betting sites.

Continuous, Feed The Flame and Fantastic Moon are among the other three-year-olds who are currently prominent in the ante-post market.

St Leger Winners Have a Poor Record

While Continuous fits the positive age criteria for the Arc, his recent victory in the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster makes him a risky proposition on betting apps.

He was disappointing behind Ace Impact in the Prix du Jockey Club earlier this season, before showing plenty of improvement after being stepped up in distance.

However, only nine horses have run in the Arc after winning the St Leger since 2000, and Hurricane Lane’s third-place finish in 2021 is the best they could muster between them.

Japanese Mare Could Upset the Odds

Fillies and mares have performed extremely well in the Arc in recent years, winning eight of the last 12 renewals of this race.

Japanese mare Through Seven Seas is undoubtedly worth monitoring, with odds of 14/1 on horse racing betting sites likely to attract plenty of each-way interest.

With top French jockey Christophe Lemaire booked to ride and the mare handed a useful draw in stall five, it would be no surprise to see her run well at a decent price.
