Newmarket July Festival 2023: Top Sprinters Set to Strut Their Stuff

The three-day July Festival at Newmarket on Thursday to Saturday is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar in the United Kingdom.

The meeting features several Group-level races which will be extremely useful pointers for other big events further down the line.

All of the top horse racing betting sites have priced up the top races and there are several intriguing wagering opportunities over the next few days.

We have scoured the entries to come up with three horses we think are worth watching, starting with one that is expected to shine on the opening day.

Highlights

  • O’Brien eyeing another Group-race win.
  • Gosden stable targets Falmouth glory.
  • Azure Blue the value bet in the July Cup.

Mountain Bear Could be Tough to Beat

Top Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien is generally a man to follow at the big meetings and he could record another Group race win on Thursday.

His Mountain Bear ran a promising first race at The Curragh, before running out an impressive winner of a maiden at the same track last month.

The horse is a best-priced 5/1 with several UK betting apps to emerge victorious and he could give O’Brien his third career victory in the July Stakes.

Nashwa Bidding to Bounce Back in the Falmouth

Nashwa has been supplemented for Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes on Friday and that decision could pay dividends for the John and Thady Gosden stable.

Two Group 1 victories last season highlighted Nashwa’s ability, but she has been slow to come to hand in two outings this term.

The drop back to a mile should not be a problem for the Frankel filly and odds of 4/1 on numerous new betting sites are extremely tempting.

Azure Blue Can Sparkle in the July Cup

With doubts about the participation of Little Big Bear, Commonwealth Cup winner Shaquille will likely be a short price to win the July Cup on Saturday.

However, the 5/1 on offer for Azure Blue on several betting sites in the UK looks be tremendous each-way value.

The filly missed Royal Ascot after impressive victories at Newmarket and York, and should arrive at Newmarket in peak condition
