Lucky Punter Lands £28,767 Placepot Windfall

Several punters had plenty to celebrate as the Placepot on the opening day of the Dante meeting at York paid more than £28,000.

Just 7.53 units scooped the total £216,618.53 prize pool, meaning the dividend paid a cool £28,767.40 to successful punters at York and on UK betting sites

York racegoer Claire Alexander was among the lucky winners. Find out how she bashed the bookmakers on a day of shock results on the Knavesmire.

Highlights

  • Crystal delights Placepot punters.
  • Musidora upset boosts the pot.
  • Burke two-year-old completes a memorable day.

Ambitious £32 Bet Pays Massive Dividend

Alexander’s bet comprised two selections in each of the six races. Her unit stake was 50 pence, resulting in a £32 total outlay. Her successful picks were as follows:

  1. Crystal Delight – Won – 18/5
  2. Aleezdancer – Won – 14/1
  3. Mill Stream – Won – 4/1, Diligent Harry – 3rd – 17/2
  4. Secret Satire – Won - 22/1
  5. Diligent Resdev -Won – 40/1
  6. King Of Light – 3rd – 7/1

Having two placed horses in the third leg gave Alexander two winning lines, thus ensuring she received the full £28,767.40 payout.

Well-Backed Favourite Gets the Ball Rolling

Crystal Delight’s impressive victory in the opening race set the ball rolling for Alexander, before Aleezdancer kept the bet alive by winning the second race.

After picking the first and third in the next race, she somehow selected the 22/1 winner of the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes in the fourth leg.

When 40/1 shot Diligent Resdev beat two other outsiders in the seven-furlong handicap, Alexander was left sweating on the outcome of the final race.

King Of Light Seals the Deal

King Of Light and American Style were Alexander’s final two selections and the former got the job done by comfortably claiming third place.

The Karl Burke trained two-year-old led inside the final furlong before being headed, but kept on well to ensure her Placepot bet landed.

On-course bookmakers paid out the lucky punter, while several horse racing betting sites were forced into making sizeable payouts to a handful of customers.
