Champion Hurdle 2025: Constitution Hill Roars to the Top of the Market

Constitution Hill showcased his Champion Hurdle credentials at Kempton on Boxing Day. Find out how his impressive victory impacted the Cheltenham Festival betting.

Constitution Hill silenced his doubters after recording an impressive victory in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The hugely talented seven-year-old now heads the market for the 2025 Champion Hurdle on Cheltenham betting platforms and will be tough to beat in March.

Read on as we assess Constitution Hill’s victory before looking at how it impacted the betting for the two-mile hurdling showpiece at Cheltenham.

Highlights

  • Constitution Hill silences the critics.
  • Pundits left with egg on their faces.
  • Lossiemouth outclassed at Kempton.

Constitution Hill is Back with a Bang

A series of niggling issues prevented Constitution Hill from running for almost a year, but he put those problems behind him in devastating fashion at Kempton.

Trainer Nicky Henderson never lost faith in the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner and his patience was rewarded with a devastating performance.

Numerous ‘experts’ had written off Constitution Hill including former jockey Paddy Brennan, who had predicted Lossiemouth would win the race easily.

Henderson’s charge is now odds-on on betting apps to retain his crown and it would be a major surprise if he fails to emerge victorious at Cheltenham.

No Excuses for Lossiemouth After Defeat

Trainer Willie Mullins, who was watching the race from Leopardstown, was surprised with the lack of speed Lossiemouth showed during the early part of the race.

Jockey Paul Townend was also baffled by the performance, but the reality is there are no excuses for the mare. Ultimately, she was outclassed by a better horse.

Connections would be well advised to avoid a future rematch with Constitution Hill as the outcome would not be any different.

Lossiemouth is the 5/4 favourite on UK betting sites for the Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and that is the more sensible route to take.
