Big Evs produced an eye-catching workout at Southwell, powering clear of stablemate Blind Beggar under jockey Tom Marquand.
The horse is a 10/1 shot with several horse racing betting sites as he bids to record his second consecutive victory at the Breeders’ Cup.
The son of Blue Point was a gritty winner of the Juvenile Turf Sprint last year and has claimed victory in two of his four outings this season.
Big Evs finished eighth in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York on his latest appearance, but Appleby has insisted the horse will produce his best form at Del Mar.
"The ground, the draw and everything went against him and you can put line through it," Appleby said.
"He's proved he's trained on - he's still as good as he was, probably better. It will be nice to go back to America and it would be great if he comes out and wins.
"I'm not under any illusions - it's not going to be easy. As long as he runs his race and he's thereabouts we'll be happy. If he doesn't win, he doesn't — but he's going there with every chance."
Marquand, who has won four times aboard Big Evs in six outings, said ‘it’s all systems go for America now’ following the Southwell workout.
