Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 22/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card is a bumper edition with meetings across the UK and Ireland at Chelmsford, Lingfield, Newcastle, Newton Abbot, York, Killarney and Leopardstown to get us through the day and closer to the weekend.

Yesterday, we prolonged our hot streak when we tipped another winner thanks to City Of Troy’s triumph in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York. Below, you can view our latest horse racing betting tips ahead of the action on the track.

Best Tip #1:  Birdman – Leopardstown, 18:25

Birdman caught the eye when finishing third in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June and dropping down in grade today, he could be difficult to stop.

The 3-year-old is one of two likely candidates from Miss J Harrington’s stable, though Birdman gets the nod here. He won twice on the bounce in April and May at Cork and Navan and he should go well here if he approaches that kind of form today.

Kinesiologly is listed as second-favourite on the best horse racing betting sites and could be thereabouts for Harrington.

The talented charge finished second on each of his last two visits to Leopardstown and should be able to launch another bold bid on his return to the track.

Best Tip #2: You Got To Me – York, 15:35

The eagerly anticipated Yorkshire Oaks is shaping up to be quite the skirmish, though You Got To Me is taken to lead the charge in the prestigious race.

Ralph Beckett’s filly beat off several of today’s rivals in the Irish Oaks a month ago and on that evidence, has got to be in with a big chance of following up. Today’s race should be just as demanding, but she has already proven her mettle against this field once.

Aiden O’Brien’s Content was left in second place by You Got To Me at The Curragh in July, and though she has enjoyed plenty of backing ahead of today’s event, she needs to show more to force a reverse in the shake-up.

Spare a thought for the Gosdens’ Queen Of The Pride too. She arrives with a record of three wins from her last four races and shouldn’t be discounted.

Best Roughie: Je T’ai Porte – Killarney, 17:06

There is plenty to like about Je T’ai Porte off today’s mark and her progressive form over the summer indicates that she can punch above her weight for Gavin Cromwell in this GMIB Handicap Hurdle.

Generally a better chaser, the 6-year-old has a record of 1-2-1-10-2 from her last five efforts and should have decent each-way claims here.

Mighty Tom, who has been enjoying top billing on the best betting apps in the UK, tends to perform well at Killarney and with jockey Rob James adding a 7lb claimer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the thick of things.

The Willie Mullins and Paul Townend combination means Icare Desbois also makes the shortlist.

Stats and Insights

  • With few challenging bends or undulations to conquer, Leopardstown tends to favour the stronger gallopers. Aiden O’Brien has been the most dominant trainer at Leopardstown over the last five flat seasons, winning a whopping 84 times there over that period.
  • York is another circuit for gallopers to enjoy due to the wide bends and long straight to the finish making conditions for striding horses ideal. Jockeys Daniel Tudhope, Tom Marquand, William Buick, Ryan Moore and Jim Crowley have all enjoyed success at York before.
  • There are some tight bends and a short run in to consider for horses racing at Killarney and more agile types can often be the ones to back there as a consequence. Previous winners Darragh O’Keeffe, Rachael Blackmore, Paul Townend, Jack Kennedy and JJ Slevin are all riding in today’s meeting.
