Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 14/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

We’ve reached day three at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival and with another set of seven races to analyse, we’re aiming to give the bookies another wallop. We landed a winner yesterday when Ballyburn made good on his promise to win the Gallagher’s Novice Hurdle, but we’re confident of a better overall strike-rate on St Patrick’s Thursday. Read our latest Cheltenham betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Ginny’s Destiny – Cheltenham 1.30

Ginny’s Destiny has been a big improver this season and has shown that he can handle any ground. The Paul Nicholls-trained 8-year-old won each of his last three races and all three of those successes were scored at Cheltenham. Nicholls had a win in last year’s renewal with Stage Star, and Ginny’s Destiny is not too dissimilar a horse.

Willie Mullins’ Facile Vega has been the most popular pick in the ante-post markets across the majority of horse racing betting sites. However, there are question marks over the 7-year-old following some patchy jumping form. Dan Skelton’s Grey Dawning could also bin the mix on the back of a record 1-2-1 from his last three efforts.

Best Tip #2:  Noble Yeats – Cheltenham 3.30

Noble Yeats caught the eye on Trials Day when he beat Paisley Park to the post and with jockey Harry Cobden back in the saddle, the 9-year-old could be the one to watch in this demanding event. The 2022 Grand National winner has the cheekpieces back on too and though recent hurdle form hasn’t been exceptional, he has the pedigree to perform on the day.

Teahupoo is the obvious danger and favourite to prevail on most betting apps. The 7-year-old looked a cut above to win a Grade 1 event at Fairyhouse last December, though he has yet to race in 2024. A third-place finisher at Cheltenham over hurdles last year, Teahupoo should have extra maturity to wield this time around.

Best Roughie: Fil Dor – Cheltenham 2.50

Fil Dor gave an excellent account of himself when finishing second behind the fancied El Fabiolo in December, and pushed up in trip today, he could surprise a few from a big price. Fil Dor is a consistent type and will be the youngest horse in the field today. The extra distance should suit and the 6-year-old should be high up on shortlists.

Envoi Allen meanwhile, is targeting a fourth career win at Cheltenham today, but he has been out of action since November and the veteran might struggle to back up his claims. Capodanno from Willie Mullins’ stable, enjoyed a win at Cheltenham at the end of January over a longer distance, and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the tighter trip.

Stats and Insights

  • Remarkably, every single winner of the Turners Novices’ Chase (1.30) since 2012 has been a previous contestant at Cheltenham. Colonel Harry, Le Patron, Jamaico and Djelo are first-timers in the field in today’s first race.
  • Nine of the last ten winners of the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle (3.30) had previous hurdling efforts behind them. Trainer Willie Mullins has only won this race twice, while the Irish have won only six of these renewals since 1995. Irish horses have won the last three, however.
  • 15 of the last 19 winners of the Ryanair Chase (2.50) have won at Cheltenham before. In addition, 12 of the last 16 winners of this race have won a Grade 1 Chase previously. Seven of the last eight renewals of this race have come from Irish stables.
