Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 03/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s race card schedule features exciting events at Doncaster, Huntington, Newcastle and Leopardstown, giving us plenty of opportunities to pick out some runners with the potential to produce profit. As per the usual routine, we’ve combined detailed research with expert analysis to bring you another prime set of horse racing betting tips for the day’s racing.

Best Tip #1: Gamigin – Leopardstown 3.25

Gamigin is chasing a hattrick today having won at Ayr and Down Royal in his last two outings. Noel Kelly’s 6-year-old ran clear at Down Royal in a 2m Hurdle Handicap on December 26th and is fancied to deliver the goods again over the same trip.

Gamigin has an 8lb increase to handle and slightly more testing conditions to conquer, however, he is taken to push again in the 3.25.

Competition should arrive in the form of Magic Olinger, who is a well-backed favourite following a decent fourth-placed showing at Fairyhouse over hurdles in December.

Clear the Clouds also has some solid form to build upon, though a 2lb rise today seems a little extreme and could be a factor. The Lucky Lobster has had his prices slashed in the ante-post betting on numerous betting sites for horse racing and could also be of interest.

Best Tip #2:  Aeronisi – Doncaster 4.25

With favourite Lady Mendoza now a non-runner and the field cut from 12 down to just five competitors overall, the 4.25 at Doncaster suddenly takes on an open look and Aeronisi, who has been backed in from 6/1, could capitalise.

The 8-year-old has had just six races, one of which included a chasing debut win at Fontwell in March 2022. His chase mark is 9lb higher than today’s rating and Aeronisi is taken to enjoy success here.

Ismael, who was an Irish point winner a little over a year ago, looked the part when ridden out to win at Uttoxeter in January. Cheekpieces were reapplied to the 6-year-old on that occasion and if he can carry the 8lb rise, he should be competitive again.

Velasco was a winner at Sedgefield on February 7th, though preference is for the alternatives above with the 8-year-old a little more exposed than other combatants.

Best Roughie: The Caltonian – Newcastle 7.00

The Caltonian’s performance levels have been on the up since blinkers were fitted, winning a whopping five handicaps over the winter on Tapeta surfaces. He turned heads again when landing in second spot at Newcastle at the end of last month and only has a 2lb increase to bear on his return to the same track today.

The Caltonian has won or placed in four of his last five outings, all of which were at Newcastle, and he oozes big potential at a sizable price here.

Elsewhere, Greatgadian has been hovering near the top of the markets on betting apps. The 6-year-old was a winner at Newcastle back in October and though he got crowed out when finishing 6th at Kempton last time out, he has solid claims today off a kind mark.

Love De Vega tasted victory at Chelmsford a little over a week ago, though he will have to crank things up today against stronger opposition with a 4lb rise.

Stats and Insights

  • Leopardstown tends to suit the galloping types and the flat, left-handed circuit runs around one-mile six furlongs. The bends aren’t sharp enough to slow things down, so runners with a bit of pace about them can excel. Trainers Aidan O’Brien and Willie Mullins have long been the most dominant trainers at the Irish track.
  • Newcastle features an uphill stretch in the final flurry which can put pressure on the legs of runners, especially in competitive contests. That calls for extra stamina and horses with staying power can do well around the left-handed run in the north east.
  • Doncaster is a pear-shaped track with soft undulations, so hard luck stories are few and far between there. Conditions at Doncaster are usually decent, though a heavy surface is expected today after some rainfall in the region.
