Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 30/09

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

A new racing week kicks off with a quartet of meetings on Monday with events at Hamilton, Wolverhampton, Down Royal and Roscommon combining to fill up the card across the UK and Ireland. Yesterday, we tipped yet another winner for our readers thanks to My Mate Alfie’s triumph at The Curragh and below, we’ve laid out our latest horse racing betting tips for today’s action.

Best Tip #1:  Scatchwah – Down Royal, 17:35

Scatchwah heads to Down Royal on the back of a solid win at Roscommon over 1m 4f on September 2nd and despite moving up 6lb in the ratings, Sheila Lavery’s charge gets the nod to follow up with another triumph.

He has competed in two handicaps in total since August and his win at Roscommon was preceded by a promising burst to second at Tipperary. Expect another bold bid from his in-form contender here.

JP Murtagh’s Sixpack could be another name for shortlists at a similarly competitive price on horse racing betting sites.

With Colin Keane in the saddle, the double handicap winner from the summer should have what it takes to be in the mix. The versatile sort disappointed at Roscommon (6th) earlier this month, though an improved effort could be in the works today.

Best Tip #2: In The Trenches – Roscommon, 13:40

In The Trenches has been knocking at the door for what feels like an age and having finished second in six of his last seven starts, today could finally be the day he gets off the mark for Gavin Cromwell.

In The Trenches was much better than today’s rival Empire Success when the pair last crossed paths at Wexford last month, and the 4-year-old could go one better to land an overdue win at Roscommon today.

Elsewhere, Saint Le Fort could pose a challenge for Philip Fenton. He showed flashes of potential in each of his first two starts at Punchestown (6th) and Limerick (3rd) with the latter effort over 2m a particularly eye-catching display.

Based on that form in March, Saint Le Fort could be ready to make strides with a bolder push at Roscommon.

Best Roughie: Ventura Express – Hamilton, 16:10

Ventura Express is listed at a big price on sports betting apps ahead of today’s fifth race at Hamilton, though the 7-year-old has produced against-the-odds performances before and could launch a challenge as an outsider again here.

A dual 5f winner already this term, he failed to get going at Thirsk (7th) when last seen, though he has the ability to rebound to something better here.

Moonstone Boy might be a more palatable option for those looking for a slightly safer angle, meanwhile.

The 3-year-old returns to Hamilton having won back-to-back races there on his last two outings and with that track record difficult to dismiss, Moonstone Boy could make light of a 6lb increase to threaten.

Stats and Insights

  • The course at Down Royal is a right-handed, undulating setting and staying power is required to stay the distance there. Jockeys Colin Keane, WJ Lee, Dylan Browne McMonagle, Ronan Whelan and Chris Hayes are all in action today and all five have good records at Down Royal.
  • There aren’t too many hard luck stories at Roscommon, though there are some tricky bends to tackle, so horses need to have their wits about them. During the jump race season, trainers Henry De Bromhead and Gordon Elliott are among the more reliable performers.
  • Stamina is a key attribute to possess at Hamilton due to the final two furlong climb to the winning post in sprint races at the Scottish track. Jim Goldie has been the most successful trainer at Hamilton over the last five seasons, winning a massive 51 races there over that period.
