Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 29/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Friday’s race card programme features events at Chelmsford, Lingfield and Newcastle, and with a trio of meetings across the UK to dissect, the potential for profit ahead of the weekend feels high again. Yesterday, our three selections returned two winners thanks to Dreaming Blue’s triumph at Fontwell and Suspicion’s effort at Southwell and we’re targeting similar success today. Below, you can sink your teeth into our latest horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1: Paddy’s Courage – Chelmsford City, 1.40

Darryll Holland’s foal, Paddy’s Courage, was involved at the front for much of her debut in the Brocklesby at Doncaster on March 23rd before fading back to finish sixth, though that experience should hold her in good stead for her second effort in the first race at Chelmsford.

If progression is made, then Paddy’s Courage should be expected to be in the mix and she is taken to score for the first time.

Elsewhere, Far Above The Law has been gaining interest on other horse racing betting sites. She runs out of a formidable stable here and is closely related to the French 1m winner, Familiar.

Anthropologist is another with good pedigree and that breeding suggests he should fly on the AW surface. However, Paddy’s Courage is favoured ahead of that duo here.

Best Tip #2: Cephalus – Lingfield, 2.40

Talented 5-year-old Cephalus has been in excellent form since the winter, winning four separate races since December, including a Class 5 Handicap at Lingfield as recently as March 22nd.

He won that one with plenty left in the tank over C&D and is 2lb ahead of the handicapped under a 5lb penalty today. Cephalus has major claims here, so back him to win for the fourth time on the spin.

Competition could be offered by Kevin Coleman’s Benavente, who scored at Southwell stylishly last month with jockey Shane Gray. With the same rider in the saddle today, Benavente could be a prominent player again, despite the 7lb hike.

Borgi, who has a recent record of 1-5-2-1, is another with potential and should be suited by the event’s landscape.

Best Roughie: Hooking – Newcastle, 4.10

The second-last race at Newcastle today features some really interesting horses, not least of all Hooking, who is taken to defy a big price to threaten.

The 8-year-old moves over from France to compete and with a record of 2-4-2-1-1 from his last five races, he needs to be taken seriously. He looks as sharp as ever and he won over the same distance at Cagnes on February 11th.

Penzance meanwhile, has been backed heavily on sports betting apps in the ante-post markets and should be a big player again. The 4-year-old is chasing a 5th win on the trot and his last two wins came in Class 2 Handicap events, one of which was at Newcastle in January.

Oh So Grand is also a serial winner with a record of 3-2-1-1-1 in his last five and should be respected.

Stats and Insights

  • Chelmsford is marked by wide, sweeping bends around its oval circuit which often suits the galloping types. Trainer Jack Gilligan has only had six horses raced at Chelmsford this season, though half of his entries have won, so look out for his charges there.
  • Lingfield has some sharp angles for horses to get around, though ground can be made up on the seven-furlong straight which runs downhill for the duration. Jockey Rossa Ryan has nine wins at Linfield this season, though Alistair Rawlinson has the best strike rate there so far (33%).
  • Newcastle is the only all-weather track in the UK and with a straight mile and wide space to enjoy, the gallopers have plenty of room to manoeuvre. Jockeys Paul Mulrennan and Hollie Doyle have had success at Newcastle this term while trainer Jim Goldie leads the way for total wins at the track (12).
