Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 29/02

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There is a bumper race card line up across the UK & Ireland on Thursday with events at Chelmsford, Ludlow, Taunton, Wetherby and Clonmel to sink our teeth into. Yesterday, we landed a huge 10/1 winner when Espoir De Gueye upset the odds at Wincanton and today, we’ll be aiming to put our powers of prediction to good use again. Keep reading to see our latest horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1: Made In The Woods – Clonmel 5.17

Made In The Woods is a proper stayer and could be the one to back in what looks like a weak enough field in the last race at Clonmel.

The gelding is rated 15lb higher over fences for a reason and though he didn’t pull up trees at Punchestown (4th) last month, is well treated on his chase form and should show enthusiasm in today’s test of stamina over a 3m Handicap Hurdle.

Majestic Design could also be in the mix and the mare, who is from a strong family, has been drawing interest aplenty on other horse racing betting sites. She won twice in points last season and while recent form hasn’t exactly been eye-catching, she is representing Declan Queally.

His stable is enjoying a fantastic season in point (17-37). Glorious Singer meanwhile, finished third in a handicap at Thurles earlier this month and also deserves respect.

Best Tip #2:  Eveque – Wetherby 2.50

Eveque won at Sedgefield last month and made that victory look routine, leaving today’s rival Coolmoyne in the dust. That was a duck-breaking run for the 10-year-old and though he carries a 6lb rise at Wetherby today, preference is for a repeat performance.

Eveque’s first win came on the back of a close second at Musselburgh, so the trajectory of his form feels right and he should be tough to stop if progress is maintained.

Ali Star Bert is also expected to be a prominent player carrying Jack Quinlan. The 8-year-old has been in strong form, winning on two of his last three efforts at Southwell. He steps up in class today from Grade five to four, but is ready to compete.

Sigurd, who runs of a 12lb lower mark, is a three-time C&D winner and deserves a market check ahead of time with a big price currently applied.

Best Roughie: Spitalfield – Taunton 4.25

Jonjo O’Neil’s Spitalfield moved like a winner for much of his last runout at Huntington before falling back into third spot near the post and he is backed to improve on that showing over a shorter trip at Taunton today.

A 1lb increase is nothing to worry about and having stayed well on soft ground over 3m last time out, the drop back in distance in similar conditions should be right up his street.

Elsewhere, other betting apps in the UK have seen plenty of movement on Rivers Corner. The 6-year-old left some uninspiring form behind to run clear to win at Wincanton in a Class 4 Noice Hurdle Handicap on February 17th and though he is up 10lb, he remains largely unexposed.

Previous C&D winner, My Last Oscar, is another contender despite an 8lb rise after his win at Hexham before Christmas.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Clonmel closes with a tough uphill slog of around two and a half furlongs and that demands stamina from those pushing for the post. The track runs around a rectangle shape and is fair enough before that testing final push.
  • Without any great draw bias to factor in, Wetherby is listed among the fairer courses on the horse racing circuit. The jump races can suit runners with longer reach on the drawn-out straights, though the track is drawn out enough in between to make it a comfortable ride for most.
  • Taunton is on the short side and front runners are often favoured with little time to make up ground from the back. The finish line arrives pretty quickly after the track’s final bend so if your runner isn’t jostling for position near the front, your chances are probably blown.
