Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 28/09

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s race card is typically busy with meetings across the UK and Ireland at Chelmsford, Haydock, Market Rasen, Newmarket, Ripon, The Curragh and Listowel to dig through. As per the usual routine, we’ve analysed form and weighed up the angles to bring you three prime horse racing betting tips for the day’s action. Check them out below.

Best Tip #1:  Lion Ring – Chelmsford, 19:30

Lion Ring steps back up to 6f and carries a 4lb increase at Chelmsford today, though the in-form charge still gets the nod to beat all in the Betfair Plays Different Handicap.

A winner on his last two starts at Lingfield and Chelmsford, Lion Ring is in career-best fettle and still keenly priced on horse racing betting sites, there is plenty to like about his prospects again here.

Elsewhere, Koji could provide a nice alternative at slighter better odds. She dropped back in distance to 6f at Wolverhampton when last seen seven days ago and promptly delivered a win despite being drawn wide.

Inched 5lb up in the ratings for today, Koji has what it takes to be a key player again.

Best Tip #2: Hotazhell – The Curragh, 14:35

Hotazell won back-to-back races over 7f at The Curragh and Leopardstown in June and July before his streak ended last month on his return to The Curragh, though he was far from disgraced on that occasion and finished second just a length behind the winner.

Jessica Harrington’s talented 2-year-old has what it takes to rebound here and the longer 1m trip could bring the best out of him.

Andrew Balding’s Windlord meanwhile, could be another name to shortlist. He finished second at Sandown in July before taking a break, though he looked the part on his comeback earlier this month, beating all to win a Class 2 race at York over a distance of 1m.

Today’s task is tougher, however, Windlord should be thereabouts again.

Best Roughie: Castel Gandolfo – Market Rasen, 16:35

Fergal O’Brien brings three contenders to the Ferry Ales Brewery Prelude Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen today and Castel Gandolfo looks best placed to make an impact.

The 7-year-old is something of a course specialist here and won at Market Rasen as recently last July over C&D. He failed to follow that up at Perth (6th) on his last outing in August, though a big improvement could be within range on his return to his favourite venue.

Elsewhere, Dan Skelton’s Got Grey has been backed to set the standard by plenty of punters on betting apps.

The hattrick chaser has been much improved for his yard and is aiming to add another triumph to recent victories at Stratford and Bangor. A 12lb weight increase is significant, though his claims remain as strong as anyone’s here.

Stats and Insights

  • The sweeping bends and two furlong straights at Chelmsford tend to favour horses with extra galloping power. Trainers Michael Appleby, Stuart Williams, Richard Hughes, David Simcock and Mark Johnston are the names to watch out for at Chelmsford.
  • The Curragh provides a unique setting with a testing uphill final flourish, so stamina can be a useful attribute to have there. Jockeys WJ Lee, Shane Foley and Seamie Heffernan are in action there today and all three have enjoyed plenty of success at The Curragh before.
  • Market Rasen is a right-handed oval run with tight turns, so nipper and more agile horses tend to be favoured over the gallopers. Olly Murphy, Dan Skelton and Fergal O’Brien are the trainers to track closely during jump race meetings at Market Rasen.
