Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 27/02

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There are horse racing events at Catterick, Leicester and Southwell to warm the cockles on Tuesday and with a trio of race cards to analyse, there should be plenty of potentially profitable avenues to explore. Below, you can dive straight into our latest horse racing betting tips, all of which have been carefully researched and selected. Good luck!

Best Tip #1: Molto Bene – Catterick 2.20

Unexposed mare Molto Bene seems to have turned a corner in terms of form and the 5-year-old won well ahead of a field of five on her handicap debut at Plumpton just yesterday.

That triumph was achieved in a Class 5 event over 2m 4f on soft ground and she should go well again today over the same trip and in the same conditions. A tongue tie seems to have done the trick to keep her moving and she is taken to maintain her upswing in form.

Elsewhere, Zwicky has been turning heads on some of the other major betting sites for horse racing.

The 7-year-old finished in a creditable third spot from 15 off today’s mark at Doncaster in November and though he pulled up at Southwell last time out, he drops down a grade today and could compete. Evan Williams’ trained Out of Focus is another likely contender off a workable mark.

Best Tip #2:  Percussion – Leicester 4.35

Percussion deserves the utmost respect today on his first start in a hunter and he earns our preference today over last year’s winner of this race, Espoir de Teillee. The 9-year-old competed well in two Class 1 events at Aintree and Warwick in his last two efforts and though he found the distance in the latter a little too testing, the drop off in trip and in grade today should give him a big advantage.

A glance at some of the other best sports betting sites in the UK throws up Cat Tiger as an alternative with merit.

The experienced 10-year-old won this exact race in 2021 and has been in solid overall form over fences in France. Refused to go at Hereford last month when a short-price favourite, however, Cat Tiger should be in the mix all going well today.

Best Roughie: Trusty Scout – Southwell 7.30

Derek Shaw’s gelding Trusty Scout has delivered a string of creditable efforts in Class 6 races of late and it could be time for him to post a victory.

The 6-year-old won at Kempton over 1m 4f in November and has kept a consistent level since, most notably finishing third over C&D at Southwell earlier this month. Running off an unaltered mark today, he could upset the established order at the same circuit.

Velvet Vulcan meanwhile, enjoyed a routine win at Lingfield on Friday to open his account and even with a 5lb increase to bear today, he is expected to be heavily backed.

Destinado should also be there or thereabouts and his record of 3-6 for his new yard demands respect. He drops back down in trip today and should offer plenty of menace in this evening outing.

Stats and Insights

  • Catterick has a habit of rewarding previous winners, so look out for runners who’ve tasted success at the track in previous races. The undulating track has narrow bends to negotiate, and that can often favour the front runners. It’s a good idea to pick out fast starters here.
  • The track at Leicester contains a right-handed oval circuit that goes for around a mile and 6 furlongs. Horses with that extra dollop of stamina can excel there due to the testing ground. Fences are also a real challenge at Leicester, so strong jumpers should also be favoured.
  • Southwell is a left-handed oval that stretches for approximately a mile. With a largely flat track, sprinting types can often do well, especially when conditions are firm in the summer. Trainer Dan Skelton has an excellent record at Southwell, so watch out for horses from his stable.
