Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 25/01

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s racing line-up from the UK and Ireland brings us flats from Southwell and Newcastle alongside jumps at Huntington, Gowran and Wetherby, and all five courses have runners with potential to unlock. Yesterday, we treated online horse racing betting fans to three successful picks, with one of our selections winning and two horses placing, so let’s carry that momentum into Thursday’s racing. Keep reading to absorb today’s free horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1: Moon Chime – Huntington 1:25

Double bumper winner Moon Chime was successful in two 2m flat races in a row at Worcester and Stratford last year and he oozed promise over hurdles when he jumped for just the second time at Kempton on Boxing Day. Moon Chime finished third on that occasion and he is favored to improve and go a couple better at Huntington.

It could well develop into a head-to-head between Newbury runner-up Strutter while Fergal O’Brien’s Can’t Resist It could also be in the mix. Jour d-Evasion and Walkingoneggshells will push for involvement, though Moon Chime impressed enough at a listed event at Cheltenham to make him a goer with his sights lowered.

Best Tip #2:  Dunboyne – Gowran 2.50

In what promises to be a devilishly competitive race in one of Ireland’s most prestigious handicap chases of the season, last year’s runner-up Dunboyne is favoured to taste victory this time around. He enjoys testing ground and has enough staying power to make the post ahead of some keen competitors. Being under Jack Kennedy should be a positive, especially with the weight looking suitable. Dunboyne has won a hurdle race, a chase and a point-to-point on heavy ground already, and he is taken to push again here.

Willie Mullins’ Glengouly is an obvious threat, while Angels Dawn – who won at Cheltenham in the Kim Muir Chase last year – could also factor into some thinking, despite being 10lb worse off. Street Value has stamina, while Troytown has winning form on heavy ground (Fairyhouse), while conditions should also suit Shantreusse under DJ O’Keefe, who has enjoyed some backing on betting apps.

Best Roughie: Clovis Boy – Wetherby 4.10

Clovis Boy was on to a good thing at Ayr on January 2nd before he slipped and he preceded that with a win over the fences at Hexham on heavy ground over 2m 4f in November. The 5-year-old should take to the tougher test of stamina over the 3m run at Wetherby. He kept on well to win at Hexham on what was only his second handicap start and today’s step up in distance could be right in his wheelhouse.

Tune in a Box will feature on plenty of slips across the best sports betting sites UK today following a convincing success over 3 miles at Newcastle in November, however a 9lb increase in ratings could put paid to him here. Colonel Whizz could threaten from a mark of 98, though he failed to impress at Southwell last month and might be better avoided. Clovis Boy appeals at the prices on offer.

Stats and Insights

  • The course at Huntington is a mile and a half long, though it is notably wide and flat with nice open bends to enjoy. The nature of the run tends to suit horses with pace to burn, so look for speedy sprinters to back. Huntington is often a favoured course for trainers looking to introduce new jumpers.
  • Stamina is the name of the game at Gowran on what can be a testing course in Kilkenny in the Republic of Ireland. Gallopers with staying power can often be favoured and with the final three furlongs of the course set into an incline, making up ground to finish strongly can be tough going.
  • Without any great draw bias to consider, Wetherby is one of the fairer courses on the circuit. Both the flat and jumps run around the same half oval. Hurdles tend to suit horses with longer reach on the drawn-out straights and the run is level enough to make it an enjoyable ride for most.
