Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 24/02

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

We’ve finally reached the weekend and Saturday has a bumper line-up of racing events across the UK and Ireland at Chelmsford, Chepstow, Kempton, Newcastle, Southwell and Fairyhouse offering us plenty of scope to pick out some more winners. Yesterday, our three selections delivered another winner plus two placed runners, allowing us to extend our lengthy profitable streak. Check out Saturday’s latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Kalif Du Berlais – Kempton 1:50

Kalif Du Berlias made a big splash when winning on his stable debut for Paul Nicolls over C&D last month and a similar impression could be made by the juvenile at Kempton today, despite the increase in weight.

The 4-year-old’s triumph in January came at Kempton in a Class 2 hurdle event over 2m, so the same trip could allow him to maintain his unbeaten record.

Givemefive is also of interest and has been picking up speed on other betting sites for horse racing. The Harry Derham-trained charge roared to victory at Warwick on January 22 and that was his third win in a row.

He steps up in grade today, however, he still deserves major respect. Peking Opera also has serious claims following a triumph in a Class 3 run at Sandown earlier this month.

Best Tip #2:  Since Day One – Newcastle 4.00

Since Day One makes a first appearance in a year, however, his form before his hiatus impressed and he could pick up where he left off at Newcastle. Donald McCain’s gelding remains relatively unexposed for his age and he’s well handicapped today.

He has won four times over C&D hurdles before and his last win came over 2m at Newcastle in January 2023. He is tipped to return with a bang at the same track here.

Horn Cape, who won twice at the back end of 2023, runs off a career-high mark, though he remains a solid candidate at a close-enough price on the best sports betting apps.

The 7-year-old did well to finish second at Sedgefield last month, though he steps up in class today and Since Day One is favoured to get his head beyond him.

Best Roughie: Chosen Shant – Fairyhouse 3.15

Ciaran Murphy’s Chosen Shant remains a maiden, however, a close third place in a Naas handicap hurdle in December was a notable effort and a similar surge at the same track last month also caught the eye.

Off a good mark today, the 8-year-old has the ability to mix it with the favourites over a favourable distance of 2m 4f on heavy ground. Weighted to have a say, Chosen Shant is taken to defy a big price.

Jouster is the race’s most obvious candidate despite falling at Fairyhouse on January 24th. He was going well in that effort before departing at the penultimate flight, however, if his jumping holds up today, he should be tough to beat.

Qournofamonday, who has gone close in a trio of handicaps since before Christmas could also be in the reckoning.

Stats and Insights

  • Kempton is listed as one of the flatter courses in the UK and it often suits the sprinting types with less of an emphasis on stamina. It goes around a right-handed circuit for a mile and five furlongs with little in the way of draw bias to factor into what is a very fair setting overall.
  • The track at Newcastle finishes with a testing uphill which routinely asks questions of a horse’s stamina. With that in mind, look for strong stayers when picking out runners. The chase and hurdle tracks at Newcastle are both left-handed which should suit most charges.
  • Fairyhouse isn’t the most testing of courses in terms of layouts, though there is a three-furlong incline into the home straight and an extra bit of stamina can often tell there. The track is a right-handed square and generally offers a fair chance to most.
