Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 23/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There is another action-packed racing line up to work our way through on Friday with meetings across the UK and Ireland at Ffos Las, Goodwood, Hamilton, Newmarket, York, Kilbeggan and Killarney. As per the usual routine, we’ve analysed the formbook and assembled a prime selection of horse racing betting tips for today’s action. View our picks below.

Best Tip #1:  Calm Waters – Ffos Las, 15:10

Calm Waters was a winner in Wales over 1m back in June and has serious credentials again on her return to the same track today.

Dropping down in grade should suit, while her obvious staying power should also work in her favour in today’s soft conditions. The addition of blinkers could also make another difference and Rod Millman’s charge could be the one to back.

Elsewhere, My Clementine could offer an alternative at a meatier opening price. She beat all to win at Chepstow over 7f in July and wasn’t disgraced in two follow up races at the same course.

She returns to Class 6 today having looked off the pace a grade up last time out, though is potential to unlock and My Clementine is worth tracking on online horse racing betting sites.

Best Tip #2: Beautiful Crown – Goodwood, 19:54

Beautiful Crown has been in top form since moving to Jack Jones’s yard and though he will carry the heaviest weight into today’s last race at Goodwood, the 6-year-old is reliable enough to perform again.

Beautiful Crown won his fourth race for Jones when last seen at Chelmsford over 1m 2f and the slight drop in trip today shouldn’t upset his rhythm too much.

Meadram has enjoyed some decent backing ahead of today’s meeting though the dual AW winner hasn’t raced since November last year and is best watched from a distance here.

Shalfa should be competitive off an unchanged mark, however. Runs to first and second at Brighton and Windsor in his last two tests could provide a platform to build on here.

Best Roughie: Big Evs – York, 15:35

Big Evs is a powerful sprinting type who has delivered the goods at numerous venues and in different conditions already for Michael Appleby. He was left disappointed by Asfoora at the King Charles III at Ascto in June but rebounded to beat the same rival at Goodwood on August 2nd.

That was the 3-year-old’s second win in three races and fourth in five outings overall and another bold big is expected here.

The aforementioned Asfoora will also expect to give the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes a proper go.

Henry Dwyer’s charge found plenty to claim the spoils in the King Charles III at Ascot and only just lost out to Big Evs last time. The 6-year-old is a less attractive price on betting apps, but is expected to figure in the shake-up.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Ffos Las is built for galloping types due to the lack of tough bends and the straight run in. Trainers Andrew Balding, Ralph Beckett and Rod Millman have all enjoyed double-figure wins at Ffos Las over the last five seasons.
  • Goodwood offers one of the most unique settings on the UK circuit and previous experience of the track can be useful as a result. Trainers Andrew Balding, William Haggas and Richard Hannon are among the names you should look out for at Goodwood.
  • York tends to suit the best gallopers due to the sweeping bends and the final straight at the end. Jockeys Daniel Tudhope, Tom Marquand, William Buick, Ryan Moore and Jim Crowley are all proven and reliable performers at York.
