Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 22/02

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Punters have race cards at Chelmsford, Lingfield, Newcastle and Thurles to enjoy on Thursday, and if you’re on the lookout for some free prime horse racing betting tips for the day’s action, you’ve come to the right place. Yesterday, we landed another winner and a placed runner from our three selections, maintaining our hot streak with a flourish, and below, you can pick your way through our latest racing tips from Thursday’s line-up.

Best Tip #1: Harmonya Maker – Thurles 2.23

Harmonya Maker looks well placed to pounce ahead of her rivals at Thurles having just delivered arguably her best-ever performance to win at the same track just a month ago. That Novice Grade 2 Chase triumph was achieved over 2m 4f, and the slight increase in distance today shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

The 7-year-old has a strong recent record overall, posting another win at Gowran Park in November and a strong second at Cork shortly after. She is taken to win at Thurles again here.

The lightly-raced Marsh Wren is the obvious alternative contender. With a good strike rate of 7-12, she won a Class 3 Novice Chase Handicap at Uttoxeter comfortably on January 27th and though she is stepping up a couple of grades today, the 8-year-old is of interest.

Law Ella meanwhile, is enjoying a price shift on horse racing betting sites and has already tasted victory at Thurles before.

Best Tip #2:  Lupset Flossy Pop – Chelmsford City 3.35

In an open-looking field, Lupset Flossy Pop could have what it takes to push at Chelmsford City following second-place finishes in each of her last two runs at Kempton.

She was a 6f winner at Newcastle two years ago and though success has been hard to come by since, she has made a very bright start for her new stable. Flossy Pop goes over a shorter distance today and that could make the difference for the daughter of Kodiac.

Indie Skies is the one Lupset Flossy Pop will need to beat. The 4-year-old has looked stronger since switching to Michael Appleby’s yard and was heavily backed on sports betting apps before yesterday’s winning stable debut at Kempton.

There is a slight penalty to overcome, though Indie Skies is rapid enough to cope. Universal Grace, who won a 5f handicap at Chelmsford last September, has each-way claims from the rest.

Best Roughie: Athollblair Boy – Newcastle 7.00

Athollblair Boy looked the part to win his eighth career C&D at Newcastle last month and the veteran 11-year-old should be ready to compete at the same track today. January’s success was in a Class 6 run over 6f and the same grade and distance can be managed just as well this evening.

A 3lb increase has been applied after that triumph, though that shouldn’t be too restrictive and he is taken to deliver on a big price carrying Faye McManoman.

Flash The Dash will start as today’s favourite following his win at Newcastle on February 10th. A 3lb rise seems fair enough to absorb and the 5-year-old should be feared.

Abolish meanwhile, drops down a couple of grades following a run to fourth place at Wolverhampton earlier this month and he could be a contender as a result. The Gay Blade is also treated well following a win at Newcastle just after the turn of the year.

Stats and Insights

  • Thurles can demand stamina from runners there due to the circuit’s testing uphill final flourish. There is a dip going into the final bend of the right-handed track before the energy-sapping incline hits. Look for staying power here.
  • Gallopers tend to excel at Chelmsford due to the track’s sweeping bends and brace of one-furlong straights. With plenty of room for acceleration, look for the horses with plenty of go. Mark Johnston has been among the more successful trainers in recent seasons at Chelmsford.
  • Similarly, the track at Newcastle also finishes with an uphill surge towards the end and horses can feel the burn there, especially in more competitive races. The chase and hurdle tracks at Newcastle are both left-handed, and offer little in the way of surprise.
