Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 21/07

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Meetings across the UK and Ireland at Newton Abbot, Redcar, Stratford and The Curragh combine to fill out Sunday’s race card, giving us room to manoeuvre in our quest to finish the weekend on a high note. Yesterday, we landed a winner when Gale Mahler scored at Market Rasen, so let’s hope for more of the same today. Read our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Mutasarref – The Curragh, 15:15

Mutasarref is chasing a hattrick today having won the Group 3 Ballcorus Stakes at Leopardstown in June and another competitive race at Naas a month before that and Ger Lyons’ in-form gelding gets the vote ahead of the rest at The Curragh.

The 6-year-old is a proven performer over this distance and all but one of his eight career victories were gained over 7f. With an attractive price on horse racing betting sites and Colin Keane booked, it’s easy to be enthusiastic about his chances again.

Lord Massusus meanwhile, is another likely contender. The 4-year-old was a winner at The Curragh on June 30th over 1m and though the slight drop back in trip today could ask a question, he has plenty of experience on this track and should be thereabouts.

Poet Master who has three wins from his last five races over 7f also has decent credentials.

Best Tip #2: Saint Bibiana – Newton Abbot, 15:35

Saint Bibiana has been in the mood of late and since stepping up to longer, staying distances in May, the 7-year-old is undefeated, stringing together wins at Stratford, Newton Abbot and Cartmel ahead of today’s venture.

His C&D win at Newton Abbot two starts ago feels particularly poignant and with Lorcan Williams in the saddle, a repeat performance looks possible on his return to the same venue.

Jeremy Scott’s Wavering Down also deserves respect and should enter calculations. A previous winner at Newton Abbot in 2022, his form since spring has been solid enough and a record of 4-2-2 from three races could set him up for an improved run today.

Halifax has been in the frame in four successive runs and also warrants consideration.

Best Roughie: Isholo Du Vivien – Stratford, 17:10

The Watch Champions Full Gallop On ITVX Novices’ Handicap Chase in the penultimate race at Stratford features a few interesting contenders, though Isholo Du Vivien gets the nod at a bumper price.

He came out on top in two of his last four starts over fences and though he has moved up 7lb in the rankings since his last triumph at Cartmel, his form is strong enough to earn some backing on betting apps.

Paul Nicholl’s Soir De Gala currently enjoys top billing in the markets and shouldn’t be far away.

He’s already won twice since mid-April over hurdles and his comfortable showing at Fakenham over  2m 4f in May was particularly eye-catching. At 5-years-old, he’s the youngest horse in today’s race and many expect him to set the standard.

Stats and Insights

  • There is a taxing inclined finish to climb at The Curragh and powerful gallopers with buckets of stamina can often have the edge in latter exchanges of races there as a result. Jockeys Colin Keane, Ryan Moore, WJ Lee, Shane Foley and Seamie Heffernan have enjoyed plenty of success at the Curragh in previous seasons.
  • The circuit at Newton Abbot features sharp turns and a short run-in, so speed is needed there to succeed. Trainers Paul Nicholls and Fergal O’Brien have been the dominant forces at Newton Abbot in jumps races over the last five campaigns.
  • Stratford is another narrow track with regular turns, so it’s best to look to the speedier types when selecting horses there. Trainers Dan Skelton and Fergal O’Brien have posted 20 or more wins at Stratford over the last five seasons.
