Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 21/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card line-up features meetings at Chepstow, Ludlow, Southwell and Cork, and with dozens of exciting races to peruse, we’re aiming to sniff out some more profit for our readers. Yesterday, two of our three selections returned winners when Prairie Wolf and Billytherealbigred won at Haydock and Market Rasen respectively. Check out our latest free horse racing tips below.

Best Tip #1: Hawk Stone – Chepstow 2.15

Hawk Stone is a lightly raced 5-year-old with an imposing frame and he produced a career-best run to finish second at Wincanton earlier this month. Still unexposed, he is taken to score over a slightly longer distance today despite his 1lb mark increase. Chepstow is a track for the gallopers and Hawk Stone is the right type to succeed.

Opposition could come in the form of Queen of Steel. The 4-year-old landed in second spot at Exeter on March 8th over 2m 1f and with Isabelle Ryder in the saddle again, she could be in the mix once again.

Dance Havana, who could excel over a shorter trip, could also be worth a market check on horse racing betting sites.

Best Tip #2:  Greenrock Abbey – Ludlow 4.10

In a largely uninspiring field, Greenrock Abbey is the one that excites most. He has been consistent enough over fences (3-3-2-3-2) and with conditions likely to be suitable at Ludlow today, the 8-year-old is taken to score.

He moves up in trip today and competes in another Class 4 event having mixed it a grade up in recent outings.

One True King meanwhile, races for the third time on the spin at Ludlow and will hope to step things up on his third test there.

The 9-year-old has two races at the track in February and finished second on each occasion, so he should be thereabouts again. Stormin Crossgales shouldn’t be written off either despite pulling up at Hereford last time out.

Best Roughie: Rolly Bowley Boy – Cork 3.58

Rolly Bowley Boy’s only career win to date came over hurdles at Clonmel last winter, however, he has hit the post on several occasions over fences so far this season and could be a contender today if he gets his step right.

The 7-year-old was in the midst of a 3-2-2-2 record before slipping back at Gowran Park (7th), however, a restoration of previous form could make him a major player.

Elsewhere, Carlas Big Jim has been turning out pockets on sports betting apps. Hunting down a hattrick following back-to-back wins at Clonmel and Gowran Park, the 6-year-old has a hefty 9lb increase to bear, however, he could take a bit of stopping.

Housemartin is another who finished with a win in the winter at Cork and despite sitting out the last 116 days, he could be involved.

Stats and Insights

  • Conditions can be testing at Chepstow due to the regular rainfall in Wales, while the undulations at the circuit are harsher than many other tracks and gallopers can be unsettled as a result. Trainer Paul Nicholls (eight) has more wins at Chepstow this season than any of his rivals.
  • Galloping types are usually suited to the run at Ludlow, though they still have to be nimble enough to conquer the sharp bends on the chase course. Trainer Emma Lavelle has a 36% strike rate at Ludlow this season, while jockey Ben Harvey has yet to be beaten.
  • The track at Cork is a right-handed oval that goes around for a mile and a quarter. It’s relatively fair and flat, and suits most types. WP Mullins has eight wins from 31 races at Cork this season while jockey Darragh O’Keefe leads the way in that discipline with six victories.
