Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 20/07

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s race card line up is jam-packed with meetings from the UK and Ireland, and with events at Cartmel, Doncaster, Haydock, Market Rasen, Newbury, Newmarket, Ripon and The Curragh to dissect, the opportunity to land some profit is there again. Ahead of the action on the track, we’ve put together a trio of horse racing betting tips for Saturday’s card below

Best Tip #1:  Gale Mahler – Market Rasen, 13:35

With four wins from her last five starts, Gale Maher could hardly be in better form and the rapidly-improving 5-year-old has what it takes to maintain her hot streak today.

The dual bumper winner won with room to spare on her hurdling debut at Market Rasen last month and returning to the same track and trip today, she should be difficult to stop.

Letterson Lilly meanwhile, is hattrick hunting following successive flat and hurdle wins at Southwell and Cartmel respectively.

She is penalised for what should be a more competitive race at Market Rasen today, though Letterson Lilly might still be worth a market check on betting sites for horse racing before lunchtime.

Best Tip #2: Dancing In Paris – Newbury, 14:25

Ian Williams’ Dancing in Paris is our pick of the bunch in what looks like an open Mettal UK Handicap race at Newbury.

He showed plenty of mettle to win at Ascot last week over a distance of 1m 6f despite coming under pressure late on and moving up just 4lb in the ratings today, he has plenty of appeal. A record of 2-1-2-1 from his last four races is formidable.

The obvious danger comes in the form of Kyle Of Lochalsh, who is a previous course winner at Newbury.

He also did the business at Salisbury on May 16th over a shorter trip, while his run to third from a field of 20 at Ascot when last seen was another positive showing. A 2lb rise today doesn’t feel significant, so expect Kyle Of Lochalsh to feature.

Best Roughie: Lava Stream – The Curragh, 15:40

David O’Meara’s filly Lava Stream is still available to back off a hefty price in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks on the best betting apps today and the progressive 3-year-old has the credentials to score.

A Class 5 Handicap win at Doncaster in May was followed up by a hugely impressive triumph in a Class 1 Listed event at Goodwood before Lava Stream narrowly lost out to Port Fairy at Ascot on June 20th. Up a total of 35lb since May, this horse is on the up and is taken to perform.

With two wins from her last three outings, including that victory at Ascot ahead of Lava Stream, Aidan O’Brien’s Port Fairy has to come into the reckoning too.

The only slight question mark is jockey Ryan Moore’s decision to go with her stablemate Content, though it would be a surprise if Port Fairy isn’t in the mix here.

Stats and Insights

  • There are some awkward turns to navigate at Market Rasen and the sharp bends tend to suit the more agile horses over the big gallopers. Trainers Olly Murphy, Dan Skelton and Fergal O’Brien are the names to watch out for at Market Rasen in jumps races.
  • With a long straight mile to power through, the track at Newbury is the ideal setting for strong galloping horses. Trainers Richard Hannon, William Haggas, Andrew Balding, Charlie Appleby and John & Thady Gosden have been the most successful names at Newbury over the last five seasons.
  • There is a stiff uphill finish to climb at The Curragh and strong gallopers with plenty of stamina can often have the edge in the closing stages of races as a result. Jockeys Colin Keane, Ryan Moore, WJ Lee, Shane Foley and Seamie Heffernan are all in action today and all five have enjoyed plenty of success at the Curragh previously.
