Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 20/04

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s race card menu is packed top to bottom with potential profit and with meetings at Ayr, Bangor-On-Dee, Brighton, Newbury, Nottingham, Thirsk and the Curragh to look forward to, we have plenty of options to dig through. Yesterday, our three selections returned to placed efforts, though we’re determined to start the weekend with some winning tips today. Check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Bampton Star – Bangor-on-Dee, 13:40

Bampton Star is the one to watch most in the second race at Bangor-on-Dee today. The 7-year-old is unbeaten in two starts over timber, winning both outings at Exeter last month in some style.

The handicapper has applied an 8lb increase on him after his double triumph, though he could make good for connections today regardless.

Micky Hammond’s Le Grand Vert could also be in the mix following successive second-place finishes at Wetherby and Newcastle. The 8-year-old was a winning hurdler in France and could transfer that form to the UK soon.

Caeruleum, who could be worth a market check on the best horse racing betting sites, is another with credentials a little further back in the prices. He was a runner up on his chase debut at Exeter and could be involved again.

Best Tip #2: Economics – Newbury, 15:50

Economics didn’t disgrace himself on his debut back in November when he finished 4th over 7f at Newmarket and the 3-year-old has been the subject of much chatter since.

With that considered, the son of Night Of Thunder gets the nod here at Newbury. The slightly longer trip today could suit as could the conditions, so take Economics to get the job done as favourite.

The €185,000 purchase Under Siege could be another eye-catching entry from the newcomers. The 3-year-old’s price in the ante-post betting has been moving about a bit, however, pedigree with this one is strong and his stable has won this race or a division of it, three times since 2019.

Miletus is another with a tightening price that could be worth tracking as an alternative.

Best Roughie: Ramiro – Curragh, 17:05

The climactic race at Curragh has a wide-open feel and Ramiro has credentials from a big price for Miss H McLoughlin. The 8-year-old has been a solid performer for different stables and loves a bit of mud.

He had two wins when trained in the UK last season and has placed in three of his last five races overall. The return to 6f should make for a comfortable distance and preference is for Ramiro to score.

Merisi Diamond has been earning plenty of attention on sports betting apps, meanwhile. With two previous wins at Curragh achieved recently enough, the 5-year-old has excellent track experience to draw from and he could be tough to beat.

Secret Magician, who runs off a good mark today, has won twice over C&D before, shaped up well at Cork just three weeks ago and is also worth considering.

Stats and Insights

  • There are several tight turns to conquer around the D-shaped track at Bangor-on-Dee, while the jumps there are also demanding enough. Jockey Charlie Deutsch has a superb 80%-win rate at Bangor-on-Dee this season while trainer Venetia Williams has six wins from ten entrants there.
  • The track at Newbury is left-handed and generally fair and the gallopers are usually the ones to look out for at the course. The new season has only just started at Newbury, though jockey Pat Dobbs is unbeaten there after two races. Trainer Richard Hannon leads the way in that department with three victories.
  • There is a taxing uphill final flourish to power up at the Curragh and horses with plenty of staying power can finish strongly there. Naturally, the big-hitting Irish trainers like AP O’Brien have excellent records at the Curragh, while jockey Colin Keane is also a reliable performer there.
