Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 18/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

The weekend wraps up nicely with a three-part race card on Sunday and the meetings at Pontefract, Southwell and Tramore should provide plenty of opportunity to pocket some more profit. Yesterday, we landed yet another winner when Dancingwithmyself delivered the goods at Ripon and we’re determined to maintain our hot streak today. View our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Godsend – Pontefract, 17:15

Godsend has been close to unstoppable this summer and the progressive 3-year-old has won three races in a row and four in his last five outings overall for Sir Mark Prescott.

He is up 3lb since his last success – which was at Pontefract – though that feels like a kind increase from the handicappers and with cheekpieces back on today, he should be the one to set the standard again.

Elsewhere, Letsbefrank could have what it takes to offer some opposition. He was a winner in successive races at Hamilton and Thirst in June and didn’t disgrace himself at York (3rd) and Haydock (2nd) thereafter.

He has a little to prove over this slightly longer trip of 2m 1f today, however, market movement in his direction should be followed closely on horse racing betting sites.

Best Tip #2: Leadman – Southwell, 14:50

Leadman makes his bow for the new season in the second race of the day at Southwell and Andrew Balding’s charge could have too much in his locker for a beatable-looking field.

On his last start at Newcastle in October last year, he finished a strong second ahead of some strong opponents and if he carries that kind of form into today’s race, he might be too good.

For an alternative with a weightier price, consider taking a look at Boyd Crowder. He shaped up as a promising youngster when finishing 5th at Newcastle on his last start 14 months ago.

He has been gelded since, so an improvement should be expected here all things being equal. James Owen’s Jaamir is a debutant with possible credentials.

Best Roughie: Parga Diamond – Tramore, 17:03

Parga Diamond has yet to score in bumpers, though there has been steady improvement in her efforts and her respectable 4th at Ballinrobe on July 23rd was followed up with another decent showing at Galway (6th) over 2m on August 3rd.

Derek O’Connor has been retained to ride again at Tramore and though a sizable improvement is needed, an each-way push should be the least of her aims.

Willie Mullins has a couple of well-backed horses in today’s last race in Waterford. El Fabienne has been picked by jockey Patrick Mullins despite a modest 4th place finish at Killarney last month.

The debutante, Marie’s March, might have slightly more appeal, even if the mystery factor drives decision-making there. The 5-year-old is related to useful types and is attractively priced on the best betting apps in the UK.

Stats and Insights

  • Horses need to bring stamina to Pontefract to tackle the steep final three-furlong finish at the track. Trainers Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey, KR Burke, David O’Meara and Kevin Ryan have all tasted success at Pontefract over the last five seasons.
  • The deep Fibresand surface at Southwell can be a bit of an energy sapper, so horses need plenty of stamina to stay the distance. Trainer Michael Appleby has held dominion over Southwell over the last five seasons, recording 76 wins from 626 races there.
  • Tramore has a reputation for being a challenging circuit due to the sharp turns, undulations and of course, the unusual flag starts. Big hitters Willie Mullins, Henry De Bromhead and Gordon Elliott have been the most successful trainers at Tramore since 2020.
