Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 18/07

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card line-up is another busy one and with meetings at Chepstow, Epsom Downs, Hamilton, Leicester, Worcester, Killarney, Leopardstown across the UK and Ireland to dissect, the potential to extract some profit feels high again. Keep scrolling to read our latest horse racing betting tips for the day’s action below.

Best Tip #1:  Tarawa – Leopardstown, 18:50

The Meld Stakes at Leopardstown could be an open affair, though Tarawa could be the one to back having shown her mettle at the same track as recently as June 6th.

Dermot Weld’s charge struggled to build on her fourth-place finish at the Irish 1,000 Guineas last year, though she seems to have turned a corner since returning to action in May, as evidenced by her excellent showing last month.

Elsewhere, Stromberg could be another contender to consider at an attractive price on horse racing betting sites.

The reliable juvenile failed to make an impact at Royal Ascot last month, though successive runs to second at Cork and The Curragh before that over 1m2f impressed and if that kind of form can be recaptured, he could make another push.

Best Tip #2: So Smart – Chepstow, 14:30

So Smart has found an extra gear since donning cheekpieces and Grace Harris’ gelding got off the mark at Bath last month before finishing 3rd and 2nd at Bath again and Chepstow.

The 5-year-old only just missed out when last seen over C&D, though he is 3lb well-in today and has the credentials to return to winning ways over a similar distance.

Revenue meanwhile, has a record of 2-1-3-2 from his last four efforts and despite stepping up a grade today, he has the ability to make an impact for Eve Johnson Houghton.

Mokaatil has it all to do to compete against younger legs, though he runs off a competitive mark and finished second on turf on two separate occasions last month. Ian Williams’ veteran might be worth a market check later on.

Best Roughie: Morricone – Killarney, 19:10

Morricone has been doing all of his racing at Punchestown this year where he enjoyed victories in two handicap races out of three between January and April.

Returning from a break today, he will run off an unchanged mark and he is taken to be right in the mix at meaty odds on the best betting apps. The good conditions today might not be ideal, but there are reasons to be enthusiastic about his chances.

Henry De Bromhead’s Red Glory also warrants respect. The flat race winner came close to scoring over hurdles in Tipperary in May and hit the post in similar style when he was runner up at Downpatrick a month later.

Further improvement is required today, though he should be thereabouts with Rachael Blackmore booked for the saddle.

Stats and Insights

  • There are little in the way of testing bends or awkward undulations to navigate at Leopardstown and the nature of the track can suit galloping types as a result. Trainers AP O’Brien, Joseph Patrick O’Brien, GM Lyons, Mrs John Harrington and DK Weld are the names to watch out for in flat races at Leopardstown.
  • The circuit at Chepstow features pronounced undulations which can slow down horses with longer strides, while conditions in Wales can often be testing. Trainers Tony Carroll, Rod Millman, Archie Watson, John O’Shea and Ralph Beckett have all enjoyed plenty of success at Chepstow over the last five seasons.
  • The course at Killarney is a snug, left-handed run and more agile types can often be the ones to back in Kerry as a consequence. Jockeys Colin Keane, Shane Foley, WJ Lee, Dylan Browne McMonagle and Declan McDonogh are among the names to look out for at Killarney.
