Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 18/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Monday’s race card line up features meetings at Fontwell, Newcastle, Southwell and Curragh, and we’re determined to land some more profit from today’s quartet of events. Yesterday, two of our three selections placed while the rain put paid to our chances of delivering a winner when the meeting at Wexford was abandoned. Let’s hope for better today and below, you can pick your way through our latest horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1: Sailing Grace – Fontwell 3.18

Sailing Grace pulled up on her last outing at Hereford in January, though she had a legitimate excuse that day and she can bounce back to shine on her handicapping debut at Fontwell.

The unexposed mare won two 2m junior hurdle events in the Autumn of 2022 and there is enough untapped potential in this 5-year-old to make her a goer in the markets ahead of the other contenders.

Alternatives come initially in the form of Only Fools. He looked off-colour when beaten as favourite at Plumpton three weeks ago, however, performances were solid before that, particularly at Ludlow in November when he won another Class 5 race.

The 5-year-old runs off a favourable mark today and could be in the mix if fully tuned in. Callin Baton Rouge is another one for the shortlist.

Best Tip #2:  Livin On Luco – Southwell 3.30

Livin On Luco is an improving type, who can land a second win in three outings ahead of the rest at Southwell.

Ran to second as favourite at Taunton last time out, which was a disappointment, however, the same trip and grade could allow the 6-year-old to hit back at the first time of asking. Cheekpieces will be applied again here and he is taken to score in the 3.30.

Fortunate Man, who won at Newbury before Christmas, is the obvious danger. A third-placed run at Wetherby in January over 2m didn’t get pulses racing, however, improvement could be possible when back up in trip here and several betting sites for horse racing have priced him accordingly.

Kaltender, who is a first-timer with good pedigree, is the eye-catcher in the bigger prices.

Best Roughie: Real Force – Curragh 2.05

Real Force will be lurking with intent in the larger prices in the 2.05 at Curragh and could have claims to run into a place at the very least. A very capable performer on his day, he won at Cork in his debut last year on testing ground and though his follow-up efforts (8-9-3) since failed to match, he could make use of a strong claimer to upset today.

The 7-year-old finished third at the Curragh in November and he could step up from there.

Elsewhere, Laugh A Minute will be hunting down a hattrick in this race today and he should be ready to push again following his warm-up (7th) at Dundalk on February 23rd.

Two Stars meanwhile, also deserves respect and runs off the same mark as his last outing at the Curragh (4th) in November. New Definition’s price has been fluctuating quite a bit on betting apps and could be worth a market check.

Stats and Insights

  • Fontwell tends to suit the quicker runners due to the track’s unique landscape. The chase circuit is in the shape of a figure eight and with tricky turns to navigate, horses with speed and agility can excel. This season, trainer Anthony Honeyball has had an excellent strike rate, while jockey Sam Twinston-Davies has been winning plenty of races.
  • Southwell is another track for the sprinters with the circuit there a largely flat, narrow pursuit. This season, trainer Hugo Palmer has won with 57% of his entries at Southwell. For the jockeys, Clifford Lee and Robert Halvin have been doing well, though Rossa Ryan has posted more victories at Southwell than anyone else this term.
  • The track at the Curragh suits the gallopers and includes a testing uphill finish. This season, jockey Ryan Moore has been absolutely prolific at the Curragh, posing 22 wins from his 58 races there. Trainer A.P. O’Brien has the most wins (35), though P Twomey holds the better strike rate of the two (26%).
