Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/11

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s race card is a step back in intensity from yesterday, however, there are still three potentially profitable meetings to look forward to across the UK and Ireland at Cheltenham, Fontwell and Navan.

Yesterday, our three tips returned yet another winner (Found A Fifty – Navan) as well as a placed horse (Pay The Piper – Wetherby), and we’re targeting similar success in our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Slade Steel – Navan, 15:05

Slade Steel was a high-calibre novice hurdler last season and arrives at Navan today equipped with a short price on online horse racing betting sites and a big reputation among punters.

The 6-year-old was a winner here at Navan for Henry De Bromhead last December and beat today’s chief rival, Better Days Ahead on that occasion. Slade Steel also claimed the spoils in the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham in March and looks ready to set a high standard again today.

Better Days Ahead looks like the most viable alternative from the small field. Last season’s Martin Pipe winner hasn’t seen action since racing to third at Punchestown in a Grade 1 Novice event, and has something to prove having already lost out to Slade Steel at this venue last year. Still, the 6-year-old deserved to be factored in to calculations.

Best Tip #2: West Orchard – Fontwell, 12.55

West Orchard did the business over 2m 4f at Plumpton in a Class 5 Chase Handicap outing in late October and promptly followed that up with another win nine days ago, this time at Fontwell over a slightly shorter trip.

The 7-year-old has been inched up 8lb in the ratings for his return to the same venue and there has been a change in the saddle with Brendan Powell replacing Freddie Gingell. West Orchard remains the one to beat nevertheless.

Elsewhere, Mister Upton could have what it takes to make a splash for Chris Gordon’s stable. The 5-year-old blew a little hot and cold in the spring, though he showed flashes of his potential when winning a similar race at Fontwell in May.

He slowed to 4th at the same circuit shortly after, highlighting his inconsistency, however, he has a big run in him and can compete.

Best Roughie: The Other Mozzie – Cheltenham, 13:45

The Other Mozzie is unfavourably treated for his first handicap chase, though the 5-year-old represents a top stable and Gavin Cromwell’s charge could defy a big price on sports betting apps to make waves here.

A winner on his chase debut at Galway last month, The Other Mozzie almost followed up before unseating at the final fence, so we have solid recent form to cling to today.

Nicky Henderson’s hattrick chasing Peaky Boy is the obvious top candidate, however.

The 6-year-old won back-to-back races at Cheltenham in January and April earlier this year in his last two outings and Nicky Henderson has had no qualms sending him into battle for his handicap debut today in a competitive setting. Expect Peaky Boy to be thereabouts again.

Stats and Insights

  • There is a tough three-and-a-half-furlong finish to end the circuit at Navan and with conditions there often on the testing side too, horses with good stamina can be the ones to back. Jockeys Jack Kennedy, Mark Walsh, Rachael Blackmore, Paul Townend and Davy Russell all know what it takes to succeed at Navan.
  • Fontwell tends to suit nippier horses due to the unique setting the track provides, so you should factor that in to your thinking when assessing your possibilities. Gary Moore, Anthony Honeyball, Neil Mulholland, Chris Gordon and Paul Nicholls are the trainers to look out for at Fontwell.
  • The new course at Cheltenham can test a horse’s stamina and jumping quality in equal measure, with just two hurdles beat in the final seven furlongs at the course. Big-name trainers Willie Mullins, Nicky Henderson, Dan Skelton, Henry De Bromhead and Paul Nicholls all have top records here.
