Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s race card line up features meetings at Bath, Doncaster, Market Rasen, Newbury, Newmarket, Perth, Ripon, The Curragh and Tramore across the UK and Ireland, giving punters plenty of scope to start their weekend betting with some profit. Below, you can view our latest horse racing betting tips for the day’s action on the track.

Best Tip #1:  Dancingwithmyself – Ripon, 16:59

Dancingwithmyself has had her feet up since winning at Ripon back in June, though she can pick up where she left off on her return to the same venue today off a 4lb higher mark.

The 3-year-old enjoyed a cosy success on her last outing here and should be fresh enough to make her presence felt again over a slightly longer trip.

Elsewhere, Fun Loving could be another contender to price up on sports betting sites. The filly seems to be on an upward trajectory and made all to win at Nottingham when last seen on August 1st.

She has moved up 3lb ahead of today’s big, however, she should be in the mix if her form maintains its upward curve.

Best Tip #2: Mehmar – The Curragh, 14:15

Mehmar was nowhere to be seen for two years before exploding back to prominence in July. The in-form 4-year-old raced to first place in successive tests at Navan and Naas over 6f and on that evidence, should be tough to counter at The Curragh over the same distance.

He’s moved up just 5lb in the rankings of late and with Colin Keane booked for the saddle, his appeal only increases.

Course specialist Pinar Del Rio is also likely to be in the running. He last raced in May, finishing second on that occasion at The Curragh.

He had a record of 2-1-1 from his last three runs in Kildare overall and though he has rocketed up 19lb since the spring, he warrants plenty of respect again and is expected to make another bold bid.

Best Roughie: Mc Loven – Newbury, 14:25

Mc Loven is a versatile sort who tends to do well on most ground and the 3-year-old deserves to enter calculations for this competitive race at Newbury.

A promising 4th at Goodwood on August 1st, Mc Loven won at Lingfield over a sprint of 5f before that and hit the post when finishing twice in successive prior engagements. Expect him to threaten off a big price again here.

Reliable filly Woolhampton could be another name to track on betting apps. Jockey Oliver Searle has already had to wins on her this term and a creditable push to third at Haydock last time out was more cause for optimism.

Richard Hannon’s The Big Board, who finished second at Ascot with Oisin Murphy on July 26th, completes the trio of eye-catching contenders.

Stats and Insights

  • It’s usually better to have horses drawn high over five and six furlong races at Ripon, though the bias doesn’t have the same impact when conditions are soft. Tim Easterby has posted more wins at Ripon (73) than any other trainer by some distance over the last five flat seasons at the track.
  • There is little in the way of a draw bias to consider at The Curragh on what is largely a fair setting. Jockeys Colin Keane, Ryan Moore, WJ Lee, Shane Foley and Seamie Heffernan are usually the names to look out for here.
  • The circuit at Newbury is a left-handed run and the straight mile there tends to suit the strong, galloping horses. Trainers Richard Hannon and William Haggas have both won 40 or more times at Newbury over the last five flat campaigns.
