Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/07

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There is a bumper midweek race card to look forward to on Wednesday across the UK and Ireland with meetings at Bath, Ffos Las, Thirsk, Uttoxeter, Yarmouth and Killarney more than sufficient to get us through the hump day. As per the usual run of things, we’ve assembled a trio of our top horse racing betting tips for the day’s action below. It’s already been a very profitable week, so let’s keep things going.

Best Tip #1:  Green Triangle – Killarney, 17:20

Green Triangle has been making steady progress for Joseph O’Brien since May and having placed in a Roscommon maiden and a subsequent conditions event at Leopardstown, he scored for the first time with room to spare at Roscommon again in early June ahead of today’s rival J’adore Chris.

The Colt has a different jockey in tow today, though MW Hassett adds a 5lb claimer to the stew and that only adds to Green Triangle’s chances.

Green Triangle’s stablemate Cap Saint Martin could be an interesting alternative. Dylan Brown McMonagle rides on him today having won on Green Triangle last time out and his switch gives us something to ponder.

Miss J Harrington’s Lady O can pose questions of her own if she can recapture the form that saw her win at Roscommon in May. Market movement on horse racing betting sites should be a guide there.

Best Tip #2: Weston Court – Bath, 17:30

Weston Court is chasing a hattrick today having won successive races at Bath and Windsor in June. Both of those efforts were achieved over C&D in Class 6 Handicap events over 1m, and running in the same grade over the same trip today, he could set the standard again.

Front-running tactics did him the world of good last month, so expect a similar strategy in the last race of the day at Bath.

Elsewhere, My Ambition also warrants plenty of respect. A double C&D winner last year, the 5-year-old shaped up well to finish second at Leicester at the end of June and on that evidence should have credentials today. The booking of Oisin Murphy for the saddle is notable.

Alice Haynes’s Shaws Phoenix meanwhile, was beaten by a neck at Yarmouth when last seen and the slight increase in distance today could make a difference.

Best Roughie: Lord Abama – Thirsk, 16:22

The Nicky Warren’s 53rd Happy Birthday Handicap is shaping up to be an open affair and Lord Abama catches the eye at an attractive price in the early ante-post listings on the best betting apps for horse racing.

The 5-year-old’s form has been solid since the spring and he won back-to-back races at Thirsk over 6f in May and June. Returning to the same venue today, he should be a major threat on good to soft ground again.

John Mackie’s Dazy Mazy meanwhile, scored for the first time at Doncaster over a similar trip in April and went close shortly after at Catterick (2nd).

She got right back to winning ways at Doncaster again directly after that and a 2lb rise isn’t significant enough to slow this in-form charge down here. Expect Dazy Mazy to be right in the mix too.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Killarney is a tight, left-handed run and horses with better agility can thrive there due to the challenging nature of the course. Jockeys Colin Keane, Shane Foley, WJ Lee, Dylan Browne McMonagle and Declan McDonogh are usually the names to watch out for in Kerry.
  • The final flourish at Bath is all uphill and that last surge to the finish tends to suit galloping types. Trainers Tony Caroll, Clive Cox, Adrian White, Eve Johnson Houghton and Rod Millman have all enjoyed plenty of success at Bath over the last five seasons.
  • The course at Thirsk is a very flat setting, though bends there are sharp and a slight chambering towards the middle of the track can slow things down at times. Trainer Tim Easterby has lodged more wins (35) at Thirsk over the last five seasons than any of his rivals.
