Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/04

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Wednesday’s race card line-up features meetings at Cheltenham, Kempton and Newmarket in the UK, which should open up plenty of worthwhile avenues to explore in the markets. Yesterday, our three selections returned a placed effort at a big price (Verbal Sparring 7/1, Naas) and yet another winner when Wide To West delivered the goods at Ffos Las. Check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Caprelo – Kempton, 20.00

Caprelo hinted at untapped potential in three races previous over shorter trips as a juvenile and the 3-year-old could be the one to watch now that he’s handicapping over middling distances.

Caprelo is bred to be suited to longer efforts and a mark of 69 looks very lenient based on his pedigree alone. The half-brother to three-time Group 2 winner Marmelo and Vent De Force, Caprelo could represent his family well here.

Free Speech could offer a challenge from further down the reckoning. She reappeared after a good break out to finish fourth at Southwell on March 31st, but posted first and second place efforts at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton before her rest.

Sir Galahad, who will have cheekpieces applied today, could be worth a market check on horse racing betting sites.

Best Tip #2: Stormy Waves – Newmarket, 17:20

Stormy Waves returns to action for the first time since September in the last race of the day at Newmarket and Charlie Appleby’s charge could make good for his connections to score.

The 3-year-old capped the previous season with a win at Newmarket over 1m in a Class 4 Handicap and should be very well suited by the same trip at the same venue today. He has serious claims again here off a 5lb higher mark.

Kalpana could also be of interest. The late foal scored at Wolverhampton after a late surge in January and posted s second-place finish at Newcastle last month.

Further progression can be expected with confidence at Newmarket today. Align The Stars is also expected to step things up this season and is another name for shortlists.

Best Roughie: Doyen Quest – Cheltenham, 14.05

Dan Skelton’s Doyen Quest remains lightly raced, however, performances this year have been impressive and he could score off a big starting price in what could be a very interesting race at Cheltenham.

The 6-year-old has already won twice over hurdles, most recently over a 2m trip at Newbury (Mar 22nd). The slightly longer distance today shouldn’t be an issue and Dan Skelton’s prolific stable could deliver again.

Sea Invasion meanwhile, has been backed into the tightest price on betting apps UK. He exploded to prominence to win over 2m 5f at Plumpton on March 31st by seven lengths and he should be a contender again here despite a 7lb rise.

Titan Discovery also carries excellent handicap form to Cheltenham and will be hunting down a third victory in five races.

Stats and Insights

  • Nicely flat and mostly fair, Kempton tends to suit the sprinting types with stamina at the track less important than speed. Trainer Nicky Henderson (seven) has lodged more wins at Kempton so far this season than anyone else.
  • The track at Newmarket includes the famed Rowley Mile, which is the UK’s longest single straight. Managing stamina well through that run and into the uphill finish is key for our tips. Trainer Ed Walker has already claimed two wins from three races at Newmarket this season.
  • Both the Old and New Course at Cheltenham are challenging circuits, though the latter is a bigger test of a horse’s stamina due to the sparse jumps in the back end. Trainers Willie Mullins, Gavin Cromwell, Nicky Henderson and Dan Skelton are always worth tracking at Cheltenham.
