Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There are four potentially profitable meetings to pick through on St. Patrick’s Day, with events at Chepstow, Huntington, Down Royal and Wexford to keep us busy across the UK and Ireland. Yesterday, our three selections returned two placed runners and a winning effort when Call Me Jack delivered the goods at Newcastle from a tipped price of 4/1. Read our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Wiseguy – Huntington 3.52

Wise Guy got off the mark at Lingfield last month to score on his second handicap start and the son of Muthathir should be ready to go again despite a 4lb rise today.

The 5-year-old drops back in distance but up in grade today, though he has the potential to be a major contender with jockey Charlie Hammond on board.

Elsewhere, Seraphic could be worth a look at a much bigger price. The 4-year-old won a claiming hurdle at Clairfontaine in July last year over 2m and though he disappointed in subsequent outings, he looked better in his last run to finish second at Chelmsford on February 15th.

Sepharic is down 18lb and could be worth a market check on horse racing betting sites closer to race time.

Best Tip #2:  Silent Flight – Down Royal 2.17

Silent Flight justified strong support to win comfortably at Punchestown on January 29th and a follow-up triumph could be in the works at Down Royal against what looks like a beatable list of opponents in the 2.17.

The 8-year-old has a 9lb rise to carry, however, that probably won’t be enough to prevent the gelding from getting the job done for trainer Patrick Byrne.

Maimie’s Magic will aim to offer some sort of competition. The 7-year-old ran well at Navan in a handicap hurdle earlier this month and finished third on that occasion. Improvement is needed today; however, the potential is simmering.

Subset also deserves respect, despite not making an appearance since last summer. Peter Maher’s charge had a record of 3-1-3 at Punchestown before taking a break.

Best Roughie: Drum Roll – Wexford 1.57

Drum Roll scratched at the surface of something better when running to 7th at Navan on her first start for trainer Paul Nolan a couple of weeks back and there could be improvement to come from the promising 4-year-old.

She steps up in distance today, which could suit her youthful legs and there is a good chance Drum Roll runs into a place at least in the first race of the day in Wexford.

The market favourite on sports betting apps is Garde Le Peche, who arrives in the south east with solid French pedigree. She managed to win well on her sole point start at Durrow 12 months ago and has changed hands for £170,000 since.

Garde Le Peche was a letdown at Limerick (9th) just after Christmas, though she is tongue-tied now and a big step up is expected.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Huntington is very flat and has plenty of width for horses to enjoy. With ample room to manoeuvre, the speedier types can often be worth backing. Trainers Ben Pauling and Jamie Snowden have been the most successful duo at Huntington for the current season so far.
  • The circuit at Downy Royal is an undulating run for the gallopers and the rigid nature of the track asks for plenty of stamina from competing horses. Horses with extra staying power can do well here. Jockey Jack Kennedy has enjoyed 14 wins from 20 rides at Down Royal this season.
  • Wexford racecourse, which is situated in the south east of the Republic of Ireland is littered with sharp turns and runs for a mile and a quarter. There is a furlong to conquer towards the post, so we will need our tips to be in the mix near the front after they emerge from the last bend.
