Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/02

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s jam-packed racing schedule features a flurry of events across the UK and Ireland, and with race cards at Ascot, Haydock, Newcastle, Wincanton, Wolverhampton and Gowran Park to pick through, we have an excellent chance of enjoying some success. Yesterday, our trio of horse racing tips produced one winner and one placed runner, and we’ll do our best to land readers some more profit today.

Best Tip #1: L’Homme Presse – Ascot 3.36

L’Homme Presse enjoyed a comfortable win on his return to action following a year watching on and the margin of victory the 9-year-old enjoyed at Lingfield suggests he should be difficult to stop here.

In 2022, L-Homme Presse won two Class 1 events at Cheltenham and Newcastle respectively, so the potential to excel is there and he should relish the slight increase in trip over good to soft ground at Ascot.

Pic D’Orhy is another contender from the four-strong field and has curried some favour on other horse racing betting sites. The 9-year-old finished first and second on two previous trips at Ascot and is reliable enough over fences.

Pic D’Orhy found Banbridge too hot to handle when finishing second at Kempton last month however, so overall preference is for the impressive L’Homme Presse here.

Best Tip #2:  You Wear It Well – Haydock 1.02

Jamie Snowden’s Cheltenham Festival-winning heroine You Wear it Well ran well when tackling 3m for the first time at Doncaster on January 28th and the second spot she secured there should set her up nicely for a bash at a shorter distance at Haydock. Dropping back in grade should also solidify her chances nicely and she has strong claims today despite a 4lb penalty.

Stainsby Girl also deserves respect in the day’s first race at Haydock. The 10-year-old has a record worth noting at the track and won on heavy ground at Haydock last season.

She was also a runner up around the same circuit as recently at Haydock, and should factor into today’s thinking. Stainsby Girl’s 5th-place finish at Doncaster last time out belied a good overall performance and she led until the final two fences there.

Best Roughie: Rebel Early – Gowran Park 2.52

Rebel Early is priced right out in the boonies for this afternoon’s 2m 4f Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park in Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, however, she has the potential to get right in amongst it in what looks like an open field.

Rebel Early hasn’t won a race in over two years, though her four career victories included a C&D success and the handy front-runner finished second in Cork back in January over a similar distance.

D Art D Art meanwhile, has been topping odds charts on numerous sports betting apps and won a 22-horse maiden in Cork last month. Down Royal didn’t provide a follow up win following a costly mistake three fences out, though a step up in trip could offer an opportunity to stay on this time.

Alpesh Amin is also expected to feature following a good effort at Limerick (2nd) in late December.

Stats and Insights

  • Previous course form counts big at Ascot and horses with experience there can often be worth backing. The circuit is a run-of-the-mill flat rack which features a straight mile within and that stretch can test a runner’s stamina, especially if conditions aren’t the best.
  • The ground at Haydock can be testing in the extreme if the weather is against us, though the undulations there aren’t overly sharp, which lifts demands for horses somewhat. Low draws can enjoy a bias over seven-furlong races due to the tight bends over that trip.
  • The track Gowran Park finishes with a three-furlong incline and that usually favours the front-runners with horses further back often struggling to make up ground. Gowran tends to suit gallopers, so betting tips with stamina are usually favoured here.
