Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 16/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Meetings across the UK and Ireland at Epsom Downs, Newbury, Newmarket, Thirsk, Wolverhampton, Cork and Tramore help to fill out Friday’s race card and punters have no shortage of options to weigh up ahead of another busy day of racing. Yesterday, we landed a winner thanks to Little Queenie’s success at Dundalk and we’re targeting more of the same below. Keep reading to see today’s free horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1:  Emerald Harmony – Cork, 16:50

The versatile Emerald Harmony has been in solid form over the summer as evidenced by an eye-catching record of 2-3-2-2-1 from his last five outings. The drop back to his distance has been a good fit and he scored at Tipperary on quick ground over 5f furlong when last seen seven days ago.

He’s moved up 7lb in the rankings since, though a first-time rider has brought a 10lb claimer today, which should help.

Adrian McGuinness’s I’m Spartacus has been mentioned as a contender on other betting sites for horse racing and it’s easy to see why.

Running off a very competitive mark today, he was a comfortable winner at Cork over 6f before and lost by just 1l in his last effort at Tipperary last week. A repeat of that performance alone would put him in the frame here.

Best Tip #2: Corporate Raider – Epsom Downs, 15:25

Julia Feilden’s Corporate Raider is been scratching at top form of late and finished second by a neck behind Bobacious at Brighton last time out over 1m 2f.

The gelding won at the same venue just before that however, and is just 2lb up in the ratings here. Today’s distance is a match again and preference is for Corporate Raider ahead of the alternatives.

Imperial Cult is hattrick hunting meanwhile, following successive wins at Lingfield on Polytrack. The switch to turf today shouldn’t be too complicated a manoeuvre for the flexible 5-year-old and he has decent credentials again.

Early Morning Dew, who almost sprung a surprise at Brighton on August 7th before landing in second spot, is an each-way possibility.

Best Roughie: River Seine – Newbury, 15:45

River Seine is a front-running type who has been in the frame in all four of her starts since May and with her performances on the up, she could be worth backing at a big price on sports betting apps in this Class 1 race at Newbury.

A Class 4 Maiden triumph at Pontefract in late July could offer a decent platform to build on, and though she needs to up her game further to compete today, we like her chances.

Amestris looked like a top end horse in Goodwood’s Molecomb last month before fading back to seventh in the dying embers and returning to compete against her own sex today, she could be more of a threat, especially with the addition of a tongue tie.

Violet Lover, who has three wins since June, could pose a challenge despite her lack of experience in this niche.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Cork is considered a fair setting and most horse types have a shot at winning there. Jockeys Shane Foley, Colin Keane and WJ Lee, who are all in action at Cork today, know how to win in Ireland’s south west.
  • There are sharp turns and testing undulations to tackle at Epsom Downs and horses need to bend their runs both ways to get around. Trainers Andrew Balding and Jim Boyle have both posted double-figure wins at Epsom over the last five seasons.
  • Galloping types are usually the ones to consider at Newbury with the straight mile at the track offering horses with longer strides the opportunity to build momentum. Richard Hannon has been the most successful trainer at Newbury over the last five seasons, recording 45 wins from 420 races there.
