Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 16/06

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Meetings across the UK and Ireland at Doncaster, Salisbury, Thirsk, Downpatrick and Gowran Park help to flesh out another bumper day of racing on Sunday, and we’re determined to cap the weekend by delivering some more profit. Yesterday, our three selections returned one placed horse and one massive 10/1 winner when our tip, Spanish Blaze, upset the odds to win at Sandown. Let’s hope for a similar outcome today. View our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Talk In The Park – Downpatrick, 14:00

Talk In The Park was producing some solid form in handicaps for Mags Mullins, which included a good fourth-place finish in a Listed race at Navan in January before switching stables.

Since moving under Ross O’Sullivan’s instruction, the 6-year-old has made further progress and having finished second in a competitive maiden at Ballinrobe on May 27th, he could be ready to take the next step.

Step Out meanwhile, could be another name to weigh up on horse racing betting sites.

He has some decent pedigree and returns to Downpatrick for the third time in a row having finished second on his last two visits here over distances of 2m 3f. The slight increase in trip today could make a difference.

Best Tip #2: Pink Socks – Gowran Park, 15:51

Pink Socks had been threatening to break her duck for a while before she finally scored to win an Apprentice Handicap at Gowran Park over 1m on June 3rd, beating today’s rival Engines On with room to spare in the process.

With jockey Amy Jo Hayes, and her 7lb claimer, retained, preference is given to Pink Socks to see off her antagonist again on their return to the same circuit.

Kodiac Prince, who got the better of Pink Socks in a race last season, also has credentials and the 7-year-old, who finished 3rd at Killarney and 2nd at Listowel in his last two efforts, could make the best of a good draw to compete.

Tall Story, who was third at Gowran Park when last seen, could be a decent each-way shout.

Best Roughie: Catch The Light – Salisbury, 16:30

Catch The Light returned from a lengthy absence last month and shaped up well to finish third at Bath over 1m 2f in a Class 5 race. She delivered the same placing (3rd) when previously seen at Ascot before than in Class 2 run (Sep ’23) and there is room for further improvement to come. AM Balding’s charge could be the one to consider from a big price in today’s Darley Ebf Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

Ejaabiyah is an odds-on favourite to prevail on sports betting apps and should set the standard, however, prices are unattractive and Catch The Light is favoured instead.

Fight For You is another alternative with merit. Her first outing at Windsor (7th) was disappointing, though she should be better for that experience and could make the frame.

Stats and Insights

  • There are sharp turns and tricky undulations to conquer at Downpatrick, so it’s usually savvy to avoid bigger horses with longer strides. Gordon Elliott (40 wins) has been the trainer to beat at Downpatrick over the last five years.
  • Stamina can be a useful asset for horses testing their mettle at Gowran Park due to the galloping nature of the track. Jockeys Colin Keane, Ben Coen, Shane Foley and WJ Lee have all been prolific at Gowran Park since 2019 and all four are riding today.
  • The straight course at Salisbury runs up an incline for the most part and that can provide a stiff challenge to younger horses. Trainers Ralph Beckett and Richard Hannon have won 28 and 27 races at Salisbury respectively over the last five years.
