Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 16/05

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card line up features a bonanza of meetings across the UK and Ireland, and with events at Fontwell, Lingfield, Perth, Salisbury, York, Clonmel and Limerick to dissect, profit looks attainable again. Yesterday, we landed yet another winner when Voodoo Ray won at Bath and we’re determined to maintain our hot streak today. Check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Cuckoo Valley – Clonmel, 20:30

Willie Mullins’s stable tends to dominate these types of races and the introduction of Cuckoo Valley in the day’s last race at Clonmel could allow the prolific trainer to strike gold again.

With excellent pedigree, the 5-year-old, who is related to Timesremembered, Joes Dante and Native Toome, Cuckoo Balley has top breeding and he is taken to score ahead of a beatable looking field on his bow here.

Champagne Kid could be worth a market check on other betting sites for horse racing, meanwhile. The 5-year-old has two races behind him and he showed up well to finish second at Clonmel over 2m 3f when last seen on April 18th.

Gordon Elliott’s Beaufort Scale, who has lineage to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo, is another with good credentials for your shortlist.

Best Tip #2: Free Wind – York, 15:15

Free Wind won a high-calibre renewal of this race with room to spare last year and though she hasn’t quite hit the same heights since, she could set the standard back at the scene of her last success today.

On her last appearance at this track, she came close to winning the Yorkshire Oaks before she was eventually beaten by just a head. The 6-year-old’s form at this venue is difficult to dismiss and Free Wind is favoured to score.

Bluestocking also deserves to feature in today’s calculations. She was a consistent sort last season despite coming up short on a number of occasions, hitting the post three times in four races before breaking between seasons.

The Class 1 regular carries jockey Rossa Ryan today and that combination could yield some overdue success if things go well.

Best Roughie: Shawaamekh – Limerick, 14:05

Shawaamekh made a notable return to action at The Curragh ten days ago and showed plenty of promise in a run to second spot in an Apprentice Handicap.

He was a prominent performer in a big field of 20 horses on that occasion over 7f and while the trip is shorter today, there is promise to fulfil. Johnny Levins’ 10-year-old is available to back off an attractive price here.

Ramiro has been gathering plenty of interest on betting apps in the UK in the ante-post markets, however.

The 8-year-old who left a British yard to return to Ireland with Hilary McLoughlin last year, has been shaping up well in recent outings, especially at Naas (March) and The Curragh (April) where he finished second. On that form, he should be right in the mix today.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Clonmel is almost rectangular in shape and alongside several sharp turns, there is a taxing uphill finish to conquer there. Trainer Willie Mullins has posted 34 wins from 89 jumps races at Clonmel over the last five years.
  • We like our tips to be involved at the front at Limerick with the dip that comes before the home straight allows front runners to gobble up ground. Willie Mullins (45 wins), Gordon Elliott (34), Henry De Bromhead (25) and Gavin Cromwell (15) have all tasted regular success at Limerick over the past five seasons.
  • York is a set-up for the galloping types and there is a lengthy run in up the home straight for competitors to stretch their legs on. Jockeys Daniel Tudhope and Tom Marquand have recorded 26 and 24 wins respectively at York over the past half a decade.
