Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 16/04

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Tuesday’s race card menu is made up of four tasty-looking meetings across the UK and Ireland at Ffos Las, Newcastle, Newmarket and Naas, giving us plenty of room to manoeuvre in the markets. Yesterday, our three picks delivered a placed runner and another winner when Alnilam did the business at Kelso. Keep reading to discover today’s free horse racing betting tips.

Best Tip #1: Wide To West – Ffos Las, 15:40

Wide To West is still waiting to score for the first time, though he showed up well for trainer Michael Keighly in each of his last two runs.

The 7-year-old managed to finish second at Leicester and then Southwell in handicap chase events and the addition of headgear seemed to make a difference in both outings. He runs off a lighter mark here and has headgear in place again, so take Wide to West to land that elusive first victory.

Competition could be offered by Frankie Faulkner, who has been consistent enough over fences so far this season. Didn’t look suited to hurdles at Stratford (6th) last time out, though he could rebound to better form at Ffos Las.

Online horse racing betting fans should also take a glance at That’ll Be The Day, who is still trying to emulate a debut hurdles win in Ireland in 2021.

Best Tip #2: Spun To Gold – Newmarket, 17:15

Spun To Gold looked the part when winning a Class 5 Maiden race at Chelmsford last October and with solid pedigree backing him up, Andrew Balding’s three-year-old should be ready to improve this year.

Making his handicap debut at Newmarket, the talented youngster, who changed hands for €200,000, is taken to showcase his potential in the last race of the day.

Pressure’s On is another horse with promise to consider. A record of 2-3-3-5-1 from his last five races showed excellent progression and his narrow triumph at Chelmsford last year felt like a significant moment.

Jockey Ryan Moore is back in the saddle here, which should also count in Pressure’s On’s favour. Our Havana meanwhile, is on a good mark and could be another to warrant attention.

Best Roughie: Verbal Sparring – Naas, 14:05

Verbal Sparring has been a familiar face at Naas this year and has been threatening to score at the Irish circuit.

The 5-year-old finished second behind Whiskeywealth over C&D in February and while he shaped up disappointingly in two visits to Naas thereafter, a favourable mark adds to his interest today. He was let down by his jumping earlier this month, but progression can be expected here.

Answering meanwhile, is available at an eye-catching price on sports betting apps. The 9-year-old kept on well to win at Thurles on March 16th and that victory followed two second-place finishes over the same trip. An attractive opening mark should make him a contender today.

Red Striker could be another name for your shortlist after his push to third spot at Naas on April 4th ahead of Verbal Sparring.

Stats and Insights

  • Ffos Las is generally a track for the gallopers due to the make-up of the circuit and the ease at which the bends there are swept around. Trainers Kerry Lee (43%) and Venetia Williams (36%) have the best win rates at Ffos Las so far this season, while jockey Kielan Woods (38%) has been the most reliable performer at the track this term.
  • Newmarket has the famous Rowley Mile, which is the longest straight burst in the UK. That lengthy straight coupled with an uphill finish means jockeys must manage their horse’s stamina to stay on. Look out for trainer Charlie Appleby at Newmarket. He has 22 wins from 79 races there this season.
  • There is an uphill finish to roar up at Naas, while the four-furlong straight before that is another test of stamina for horses. Jockey Paul Townend has won 13 of his 27 races at Naas this season, while the prolific Willie Mullins leads the way in the trainer’s category with 18 victories at the circuit.
