Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 14/05

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There are meetings at Ayr, Beverley, Chepstow, Southwell and Killarney to dig through across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday and we’re laser-focuseed on delivering more profit for our readers. Yesterday, one of our three selections was a non-runner, though we did land a winner when Sherdil won off a starting price of 5/1 at Catterick. Keep reading to discover our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Highwind – Killarney, 19:50

Highwind made a winning start to life with Willie Mullins in January, though performances slipped after that in some tough Grade 1 events. However, the drop in standards today should suit the 4-year-old who was a consistent performer in flat races in France. With jockey Colin Keane booked in the saddle, he could easily excel over this distance and Highwind is taken to score.

Opposition could come in the form of Nosta Casa. The 8-year-old returned from a six-month layoff in style to win at Navan over 1m 5f in April and though there is a stiff 7lb increase to consider today, he should be in the shake-up again.

Previous circuit winner, Almuhit, who represents Emmet Mullins’s stable, could be worth a market check on betting sites.

Best Tip #2: Kelpie Grey – Ayr, 20:00

Kelpie Grey has been hitting some career-best form since returning to the fold in March and successive wins at Musselburgh over 1m and 7f respectively were achieved in decent style.

The 4-year-old’s last triumph on May 3rd was scored despite a hefty penalty and another 6lb increase shouldn’t knock his chances of completing a hattrick. Kelpie Grey won over this trip at Ayr in October last year.

Archduke Ferdinand could be best placed to offer a challenge. The 5-year-old is a three-time winner on Swedish soil and a dual winner on turf in 2023.

He reappeared for the new season at Newcastle last month and shaped up well to finish second there. Conditions will play a part, though Archduke Ferdinand could be thereabouts again.

Best Roughie: Jessie Lightfoot – Southwell, 15:00

Jeteye is doing most of the ante-post running on sports betting apps ahead of the second race of the day at Southwell and though the 7-year-old credentials are clear, especially after his run to second at the same circuit last month, preference instead is for Henry Oliver’s Jessie Lightfoot at a more attractive price.

She won at Taunton on April 24th over a similar distance and a 4lb lower mark and followed that up with a decent effort at Ffos Las (3rd) just a week ago.

Conditions are likely to suit today and while a step up is undoubtedly required, the 10-year-old could be one to track. Rostello, who won at Southwell on April 4th, is another name for shortlists.

Stats and Insights

  • More agile types tend to do well at Killarney due to the tight bends and short run in at the track in Kerry. Jockey Sam Ewing has enjoyed two wins from three races at Killarney this season, while trainers Willie Mullins, E Bolger and Gordon Elliott have two victories each so far.
  • There are long sweeping bends and an inclined sprint to the post to consider when selecting tips for Ayr, so we prefer to look for horses with a decent amount of speed. Conor Beasley has made a solid start to the new season at Ayr, racking up three wins from eight races at the track.
  • When conditions improve at Southwell, the ground can be quick and pacier horses can have the edge there as a consequence. Jockey Jason Hart has posted an impressive 13 wins from his last 68 races at Southwell, while trainer Hugo Palmer has a 36%-win rate at the circuit this term.
