Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 13/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

It’s Style Wednesday at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival and with another seven races on the card to dig through and plenty of eye-catching runners to analyse, we’re confident that we can keep the profit coming. Below, you can check our latest Cheltenham betting tips for the day’s action.

Best Tip #1: Ballyburn – Cheltenham 1.30

Considered one of the bankers of the entire week at Cheltenham, Ballyburn is difficult to oppose in Wednesday’s first race and should deliver on his odds-on price. The 6-year-old looked the part to win a Grade 1 race at Leopardstown last month and Ballyburn, who is one of a bunch of superb Willie Mullins novice hurdlers, should be tough to stop when moving up in trip here.

Other Cheltenham betting sites have picked out Ballyburn’s stablemate Ile Atlantique as another contender and it’s easy to see why. He won by 19l at Gowran Park in a Maiden Hurdle in November and though he failed to follow that up in a Grade 1 race at Naas on January 12th, there is latent potential to unlock.

Best Tip #2:  Sa Majeste – Cheltenham 2.50

We look to Willie Mullins’ prolific stable again for our chief candidate in the 2.50 and the heavily-backed Sa Majeste is taken to prevail. Five of the last eight renewals of the Coral Cup have been won by Irish trainers and Sa Majeste caught the eye when beating strong opposition at Limerick in late December. A mark of 140 looks a little lenient and the 6-year-old is worth siding with here.

Last year’s winner, Langer Dan, has been off-colour this season, though he has shown a knack for raising his game before and a repeat performance cannot be ruled out.

Elsewhere, Doddiethegreat, who is lightly raced for an 8-year-old, enjoyed a solid introduction to handicaps last month (4th Newbury) and runs off the same mark today. Nicky Henderson’s charge could be worth a market check here.

Best Roughie: You Oughta Know – Cheltenham 5.30

You Oughta Know defied the markets to win by a full 11l on his debut at Kilbeggan last May and win with less effort at Galway a few months after that. His first outing of the new year was an impressive surge to second at Leopardstown in a Grade 2 event and he should be a major player again with a hood on today. The 6-year-old is one of a merry bunch of strong entries from Willie Mullins in the last race of the day.

Thought should also be given to The Yellow Clay, who won both his bumper races a year ago and ran to 4th in a strong Grade 2 race at Leopardstown on February 3rd. He finished just 3l behind You Oughta Know that day, which suggests he could be in the mix again.

Favourite Jasmin De Vaux, who won at Naas in January, has been prominent on other sports betting apps and deserves plenty of respect.

Stats and Insights

  • The last dozen winners of the intermediate novice hurdle have been rated at 146 or higher ahead of go time. Just three of today’s eight runners fall below that starting mark today (Handstands, Jimmy Du Seuil and The Grey Man).
  • The top weight has not won the Coral Cup (2.50) in any of the last 10 years, while it’s also worth noting that seven of the previous winners over the same period were rated at 141 or more.
  • Horses with a rating of 132 or higher have a record of 7-16 over the last 15 years in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper (5.30). Jalon D’oudairies, Junta Marvel, The Yellow Claw and our tip, You Oughta Know, fall into that category today.
  • The favourite has finished in the top three in each of the last nine renewals of the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, which is today’s second race at 2.10. Keep an eye on the horses with the tightest prices ahead of this one.
