Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 12/05

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s race card line-up contains meetings at Ludlow, Newcastle, Plumpton, Killarney and Leopardstown across the UK and Ireland, and we’re determined to cap the weekend in profitable style. Yesterday, two of our three selections placed while the other was a non-runner, so fingers crossed we enjoy more luck today. View our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Yosemite Valley – Leopardstown, 15:00

Yosemite Valley steps up to a mile trip for the first time at Leopardstown today, though he looked ready to kick on when winning over 7f at the Curragh in a Listed event on April 21st and he should have more than enough stamina to progress further.

A record of 1-2-2-1-2 ahead of today’s race is eye-catching and he is taken to deliver for Donnacha O’Brien in a competitive run here.

Power Under Me meanwhile, won last year’s renewal of this and warrants respect again off a good price on betting sites for horse racing.

The 6-year-old returned to action after a seven-month break in April to land second spot at Leopardstown, and the rock-solid gelding could push on again on his return to the same circuit.

Best Tip #2: Irish Panther – Killarney, 13:35

Irish Panther lost out by 14 lengths on his last appearance at Thurles last year, though he faces some top opposition that day, and he should find the route to victory clearer today.

The 7-year-old was placed in good bumpers behind formidable horses like Ballyburn and Fact to File in 2023, and if he can replicate that kind of form today, then he could score for EJ O’Grady.

Elsewhere, Al Gasparo is shaping up like another possible contender. Gavin Cromwell’s charge is a former point winner who has been showing up well since the turn of the New Year.

Efforts at Fairyhouse (4th, 2nd, 4th) were followed up by another solid jaunt at Tramore (2nd) last month and the 5-year-old can build on that platform at Killarney.

Best Roughie: Longlai – Newcastle, 18:30

Longlai showed plenty of promise last Spring, especially when winning a Class 4 Handicap at Kempton in April 2023 over 1m and the 6-year-old turned more heads when first seen this year at Chelmsford in March.

He lost by a neck in that skirmish over a mile and the drop back in distance today could add to his credentials at Newcastle.

Eldrickjones has been backed into a favourite’s price on the best betting apps, meanwhile. He has two previous wins at Newcastle to look back on, the most recent of which was achieved in November.

A runner-up effort at Southwell was notable on April 28th and running off the same mark today, he should be thereabouts once more.

Stats and Insights

  • Leopardstown is a circuit set up for galloping types due to the gentle bends and flat nature of the course. Trainer AP O’Brien has four wins at Leopardstown this season, while jockey Ryan Moore has posted three victories from nine races there this term.
  • The course at Killarney is a left-handed, nine-furlong oval that has tight turns to navigate at either end, so more agile types can succeed there. As ever, Willie Mullins has been enjoying a productive season in Killarney and only Gordon Elliott (six) can come close to his rival’s 11 wins so far.
  • The run of things at Newcastle is generally flat enough, though there is an uphill final furlong to motor up towards the end and stamina can come into play as a result. Hollie Doyle has a good win rate at Newcastle this season (24%) while trainers Kevin Ryan and Archie Watson have enjoyed wins in 29% of their races this time in the north east.
