Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 10/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s lineup features a quintet race cards from Kelso, Southwell, Warwick, Limerick and Naas, and with numerous avenues to explore, we’re confident we can cap the weekend with some more winners. Fortune was against us yesterday, though the week as a whole remains in good profit. Below, you can check out our latest horse racing betting tips for Sunday’s action across the UK and Ireland.

Best Tip #1: How Impressive – Southwell 4.50

How Impressive was in eye-catching form on Polytrack surfaces last month, notching successive wins over 7f at Lingfield and Kempton before losing by a sniff at Chelmsford in his last outing.

He is on a career-high mark today after his string of excellent performances, however, jockey Oisin Murphy is a serious performer, while the Tapeta surface at Southwell should also suit the 5-year-old. Hugo Palmer’s steed is taken to deliver again at a good price here.

Competition comes first in the form of Grant Wood, who has had some good backing on other horse racing betting sites. The Paul Midgley-trained 5-year-old won at Southwell as recently as late January, though he steps up a grade to compete today while carrying a 7lb rise.

Ultramarine could also have a fighting chance if he can recapture the form that saw him win twice at Kempton since the turn of the year.

Best Tip #2:  Zonda – Warwick 3.00

Jonjo O’Neill’s stable has won this race in four of the last five years and their chances of maintaining their dominance in the event are strong today thanks to Zonda’s entry.

The grey looked like a potential winner when running to second at Wincanton last month over the same trip on testing conditions and the unexposed 6-year-old is on a good mark today despite the slight 4lb rise. Zonda can score for the first time here.

Elsewhere, Bertie B is another contender with promise. He came good on his eighth attempt over hurdles to win at Hereford two weeks ago, while the 5lb rise applied thereafter doesn’t look overly excessive.

Big Blue Moon, who won on his handicap debut at Carlisle a year ago, completes the likeliest trio in 3.00. He pulled up on his only run of 2024 so far at Doncaster, though he remains unexposed over this distance and deserves respect.

Best Roughie: Winter Carnival – Limerick 3.10

Winter Carnival is a lightly-raced 9-year-old whose best run to date arrived last month in a fourth-placed finish at Thurles in a Hurdle Handicap run. He landed that position without jumping all that well and there is potential to unlock from a large price today, perhaps even as an each-way option.

Winter Carnival can look back on third and fourth place finishes at Limerick from 2022 for inspiration and the John Neilon-trained bay gelding could upset the odds here.

He Fitz In has been installed as today’s favourite on numerous sports betting apps. The 8-year-old has he his feet up since November last year, though he finished second in three successive races before taking a break.

Made in the Woods meanwhile, won a handicap chase off 88 at Limerick around a year ago and showed potential over hurdles at Punchestown in late January.

Stats and Insights

  • Southwell is a left-handed oval track with a largely flat, narrow run. Sprinters are the ones to watch there, especially when conditions firm up closer to the summer. In terms of trainers to watch out for, Dan Skelton should always be of interest at Southwell, due to his success at the track.
  • Warwick is a tight course in nature and that can often favour the more agile types, who are better equipped to manoeuvre through tight spaces. There is a short run-in to consider at the finish, so you don’t want your selections to be left with too much ground to make up.
  • The circuit at Limerick, which runs for a mile and three furlongs, finishes with a steep enough incline on the back straight before plunging back down around the final bend. That combination can allow horses to make up ground quickly, so watch out for quick positional changes at Limerick.
