Thursday’s meetings include events at Carlisle, Lingfield, Newcastle and Wincanton across the UK, and with a quartet of race cards to pick through, the potential to deliver some profit seems high again. Yesterday, two of our three selections produced winners, including a sweet 4/1 triumph when My Gift To You stole the show at Catterick. Check out our latest free horse racing betting tips in the next section.
Best Tip #1: O’Connell – Carlisle – 4.55
O’Connell has been an up and down sort, however, he opened his account at Market Rasen in a similar race in December and also looked the part when running to second spot at Leicester in late January in a Class 3 Chase Handicap.
The Sue Smith-trained 8-year-old, who starts off the same mark, merits consideration again today when he drops down in class to compete at Carlisle.
Stiff competition could arrive in the form of Concetto. The 7-year-old who carries Henry Brooke today, got back to winning ways at Market Rasen last month over a similar trip and even though he is up 5lb for today’s test, he deserves respect.
Five Dollar Fine is another one who has been shortlisted on other horse racing betting sites. The 9-year-old landed a solid second at Carlisle last time out and could threaten despite a 3lb rise at the same circuit.

Best Tip #2: Rabinal – Lingfield 3.55
Rabinal was a winner at Lingfield as recently as February 8th when he finished clear of a pack that included today’s competitor So Chic and he is taken to push for glory again on his return.
He is up 4lb in what should be a testing race today, however, Lingfield has been a happy hunting ground for the 5-year-old and he will take some stopping in another Class 6 event.
Elsewhere, My Mate Mike could play a big part in the 3.55. He got off the mark ahead of 11 horses at Lingfield in a Class 6 Handicap run over 7f in February, so the same track and trip could be another opportunity to shine, especially with a small raise of 2lb to carry.
Love Your Work has experience at higher grades, though he will need to improve on his showing at Southwell last month (5th).

Best Roughie: Billy McGarry – Newcastle 6.30
Billy McGarry notched the second win of his career when he won at Newcastle last month, finishing head of today’s opponent Brother Dave along the way in a handicap triumph over C&D. Three more of today’s opponents were also involved and bested that day and Billy McGarry is backed to fend off the same antagonists on his return to the north east.
Billy McGarry has been backed well on other sporting betting apps, so all the pieces fit here.
Tathmeen will start as favourite, however, he hasn’t won in 22 races, and might struggle to improve on the second-place position he lodged on his last visit to Newcastle in early February.
Written Broadcast meanwhile, competed well against Billy McGarry and Brother Dave last month following a sticky start, and the 7-year-old might be a decent each-way option to fall back on.

Stats and Insights
- The track at Carlisle is among the more unorthodox courses in the UK and the pear-shaped circuit is unusual enough to test inexperienced runners. The finish line comes after a lengthy-enough incline and while the rise isn’t overly sharp, it still demands stamina from winning horses.
- In contrast, the track at Lingfield ends with a downhill straight that can be swept through by sprinting types, so horses with pace are often worth weighing up here. A draw bias exists near the high stall numbers too on the straight track which should be factored into your thinking.
- Like Carlisle, the track at Newcastle features an uphill run at the last and that can put extra pressure on competitors. Horses with decent stamina can often make their push when that incline arrives, so look for runners with an ability to stay on well.
