Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 05/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Tuesday’s race card schedule features meetings at Lingfield, Newcastle, Southwell and Thurles, and with dozens of exciting horse racing events to pore over, we’re confident that we can pick out some more winners. Yesterday, we enjoyed a decent return with our trio of selections producing one winner and two placed runners. Let’s hope for more of the same today and to that end, you can check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Major Fortune – Lingfield 4.02

Dan Skelton’s Major Fortune is in the midst of a four-race winning streak thanks to a series of victories since the end of December. Two of those wins were achieved at Lindfield in testing conditions and he is taken to maintain his streak there today.

A 6lb increase shouldn’t deter him too much and is worth backing to defy the handicapper to win for the fifth time on the spin.

Hill of Tara is the obvious danger to Major Fortune’s prospects. The 7-year-old has been moving closer in price on other major horse racing betting sites, and despite falling late at Plumpton last time out in February, he won three races out of four before that, including a Class 4 Novice Hurdle Handicap at Haydock.

Movethechains also has the potential to threaten when dropping down in grade today.

Best Tip #2:  Geordies Dream – Newcastle 3.50

The aptly named Geordies Dream has been a solid enough performer since switching to handicaps and looked the part when chasing the favourite home at Carlisle to finish second on February 5th.

Running off the same mark today, the 9-year-old could go one better at Newcastle, where the longer 2m 190y distance could suit. Geordies Dream also drops down a grade and will run off the same mark, further increasing his prospects.

Beat Box meanwhile, has the potential to upset. The 8-year-old chased the leaders well before fading away late on at Newcastle in a Class 4 Hurdle Handicap effort last month and claiming a useful 7lb, the three-time hurdle winner could be one to watch when stepping down in grade.

Further progress could also be in the works for Call Me Jack, who won at Southwell on heavy ground as recently as February 18th.

Best Roughie: Pana to Milan – Thurles – 4.10

Pana to Milan got off the mark over fences at Thurles last month in a 2m 6f handicap and could repeat the trick over a shorter trip on her return to the same circuit.

The 6-year-old has decent previous form over this distance and competing off a lower 10lb hurdle rating than her usual chasers mark, she could be difficult to stop. Pana to Milan won at Fairyhouse over 2m 4f last season, so she knows how to deliver.

Smallcraftwarning has been seeing plenty of action on betting apps in the ante-post betting. He won at the tenth attempt over C&D in February from a starting price of 40-1 at Thurles, though he is listed among the favourites today.

A 7lb increase could be a factor however, and doubts remain as to whether he can produce a repeat performance. Depeche Mo hasn’t made an appearance since last Autumn, though he signed off by placing twice in a row over hurdles then, and deserves respect on his comeback jaunt.

Stats and Insights

  • There is a 7 furlong downhill surge for sprinters to enjoy at Lingfield, so look for rapid runners who can build a head of steam quickly there. Punters should also consider the draw bias that exists for horses drawn near high stall numbers if possible.
  • There is an uphill test to beat in the last throes at Newcastle and with the demand for staying power high, horses with extra stamina can succeed in those circumstances. Both the chase and hurdle events at Newcastle are left-handed, which suits the majority of types.
  • Like Newcastle, the track Thurles finishes with a stiff uphill push and again, horses with an extra well of stamina can often tackle the run-in with more aplomb. There is also a dip just ahead of the final bend, which adds another layer of drama just before the final incline.
