It’s the start of a new racing week and with optimism recharged following a successful weekend, we’ve taken a look at the Monday race cards at Carlisle, Lingfield, Southwell and Punchestown in a bid to dig out some more winners. Yesterday, we landed a winner in Beau Balko and a placed runner in So Scottish, reaffirming our status as one of the best sites for horse racing tips. Best Tip #1: Destinado – Lingfield 1.15
Destinado has come on leaps and bounds since joining trainer James Owen and coming off the back of three wins from his last four outings, the six-year-old is favoured to deliver the goods again.
He has more to do off an increased mark back in handicap but he has gone to the wire over this distance before and deserves plenty of respect. Destinado won at Linfield over 1m 2f as recently as January 24th in another Class 6 event and he can score again here.
Some alternative UK best betting sites have plumped for Taxiing instead, who posted a victory at Wolverhampton last month. A 3lb rise shouldn’t impact her too much and she could push again.
Placated and Tortured Soul meanwhile, have been garnering interest in what could be an intriguing opening salvo at the track. Placated posted second-place finishes in each her last two efforts at Lingfield.

Best Tip #2: Mercurey – Punchestown 2.20
All things going to plan, WP Mullins’ Mercurey should be tough to stop at Punchestown. The six-year-old showed plenty of potential when finishing third from a competitive field at the same track in January and with relatively low mileage behind him, he is favoured to come up trumps.
His third-place position last month came after a 13-month break and Mercurey should be nicely warmed up and ready for action at this meeting.
Elsewhere, Lightkeeper looks like a suitable alternative. He moved with promise on his rule’s bow at Naas on January 12th and should be considered as a leading contender here.
A couple of newcomers also catch the eye in Supreme Ruler and I Get It. The former has strong breeding and should be a useful runner over jumps. The same can be said of I Get It, who is brother to a winning hurdler and half-brother to five winners.

Best Roughie: Gibberwell – Carlisle – 4.07
Eight-year-old gelding Gibberwell has wins in a hurdle race and a chase at 2m 4f and 3m in his locker and he was third out of six runners from a starting price of 16/5 in a Class 5 Handicap even at Catterick in his last outing.
Gibberwell hit second spot twice at Hexham before that and he could be thereabouts today under Theo Gillard. Gibberwell hasn’t won a race since April last year, though he is often in the mix and is taken to improve at an excellent price here.
Favourite Breeze of Wind, who is angling for a third win on the spin, is the obvious threat and still unexposed, could be ahead of the handicapper today.
Robert d’Ores is a lightly-raced runner with potential on his comeback run over hurdles, while Nights in Venice also comes into the reckoning off a competitive mark.

Stats and Insights
- The track at Lingfield features a 7 furlong downhill sprinting straight which tends to suit the quicker horses, so look for rapid runners when surfing the markets here. Horses drawn in high stall numbers enjoy quite a sizable bias on the straight track, so don’t forget to factor that into your thinking.
- Punchestown is a fair track running with undulations around a mile and six furlongs for hurdles and two miles for chases. There aren’t any particular attributes to search for here, giving many races a more open feel in the markets.
- The circuit at Carlisle is one of the more unorthodox courses in the UK and the one and half mile run can be best described as pear-shaped. The post comes at the back of a long incline and though the actual rise isn’t that sharp, horses with stamina can often gain ground towards the finish.
