Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 04/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s race card line-up is a relatively light affair with just three meetings at Chester, Haydock and Galway across the UK and Ireland scheduled to cap the weekend’s racing action. Yesterday, our three selections returned a placed horse and another winner thanks to Waleefy’s run to victory at Doncaster. Keep reading to digest our latest horse racing betting tips for today’s events.

Best Tip #1:  Al Shabab Storm – Chester, 16:05

Al Shabab Storm has been hitting the heights at Chester this summer and Andrew Balding’s charge is hattrick hunting at the course today having won his last two races there in June and July.

His handicap triumph in June was followed up by an equally impressive win in the City Plate three weeks ago and this proven operator can deliver again in another Class 1 event over a similar trip.

Elsewhere, Emeraaty Ana, who carries an attractive price on online horse racing betting sites, could be positioned to pose a challenge to Al Shabab Storm’s dominance.

A former Listed race winner over 5f, the 8-year-old didn’t shine at Ascot on his return from Qatar in June, though today’s race isn’t likely to be quite as competitive and an improvement looks possible.

Best Tip #2: American Affair – Haydock, 18:15

American Affair is in line for a £100,000 bonus today if he wins his third Sky Bet Sunday Series race at Haydock today and the in-form 4-year-old could have what it takes to bag that meaty payout.

American Affair has a record of 1-2-1 from three races this summer and he triumphed with plenty to spare when last seen at Thirsk. The nature of that wide-margin win has nudged him up 8lb, though he should be right in the mix regardless.

Emperor Spirit is another name worth watching. He’s been knocking on the door since June, finishing second in two of his last three efforts. He’s been doing solid work over 5f and the front-runner can make another bold bid here if things go his way.

Jer Batt, who pushed onto third behind American Affair at Thirsk last month, is another combatant with credentials.

Best Roughie: Current Option – Galway, 16:00

Galway Festival legend Current Option has won this renewal three times in the past and is a former winner at Group 3 Grade to boot. Adrian McGuinness’s charge didn’t get going when finishing 12th in the Colm Quinn Mile five days ago in Galway, but today’s race offers a better opportunity to perform.

Keenly priced on the best betting apps in the UK, Current Option gets the nod over more fancied types.

Dunum meanwhile, hasn’t tasted victory since winning this race last year, though he has enjoyed plenty of backing in his direction in the lead up to today’s do-over.

Yet, Emmet Mullins’ This Songisforyou is perhaps a better candidate. Another former course winner in 2022, his switch to flat racing last year saw him win a maiden at Clonmel. He finished third in the Colm Quinn Mile earlier in the week and should be in contention again.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Chester is one of the smaller circuits in the UK and horses can seem like they are constantly on the turn there as a result. Trainers Andrew Balding, Hugo Palmer, Tom Dascombe, Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey have all been regular winners at Chester over the last five seasons.
  • Haydock is nicely flat and doesn’t put too many demands on horses once conditions in the North West are favourable. For flat races, it’s wise to look for horses trained by William Haggas, Ralph Beckett, David O’Meara, Ed Walker and Richard Hannon at Haydock.
  • The course at Galway has testing turns to navigate and undulations to surf, so faster horses are the ones to pin your hopes on there in the main. Yesterday was a day for the favourites, with four of them winning across the Festival’s racecard on Saturday. Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and AP O’Brien all had winners at Galway yesterday.
