Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 04/05

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

The Punchestown Festival reaches its climax on day five on Saturday, however, there are also meetings across the UK at Goodwood, Hexham, Newmarket, Thirsk, Uttoxeter, Yarmouth to pick through, heightening our chances of lining up some more profit. Yesterday, our three selections returned two placed horses and a winner when Its On The Line won the Event Power Champions Hunters’ Chase at Punchestown. Let’s aim for more success in our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Kargese – Punchestown, 16:50

Kargese finished second in each of her last two races, both of which were high-calibre events, though she lost to top-tier opponents on each occasion and she could take some beating if she carries that kind of form into today’s run.

Willie Mullins’ 4-year-old is well-raced for a juvenile and has shown versatility in different conditions. The reliable filly is taken to score here ahead of the rest.

Elsewhere, Bottler’secret has been getting plenty of attention on other betting sites for horse racing. Gavin Cromwell’s charge landed first place in each of his last four outings, with two of those triumphs coming this year over 2m at Naas and Fairyhouse. Will need to prove his mettle on better ground, though the credentials are there.

Best Tip #2: Sumo Sam – Goodwood, 15:20

Sumo Sam is undoubtedly the one to beat in the fourth race at Goodwood today. Paul and Oliver Cole’s filly claimed the Lille Langtry at this track as well as Park Hill at Doncaster last year, and she should be primed to set the standard again off a kind rating of 109.

The 4-year-old hasn’t been seen since competing at Longchamp last September, and despite a 7lb penalty, she should be fresh enough to set the tempo.

Ching Shih is another horse with the potential to go well. He has solid listed race form to look back on and finished third in this renewal in 2023.

Spare a thought for Queen Of The Pride too. She won well over 1m 2f at Leicester when last out and some of her chasing pack that day have gone on to do good things. Trainers John and Thady Gosden could have an interesting entry with Queen Of The Pride today.

Best Roughie: Theoryofeverything – Newmarket, 14:20

Theoryofeverything won once in six starts for the Gosdens on his debut before switching stables at the end of last year and the 4-year-old shaped up well for new connections when thrust into action in April at Newmarket.

He finished fourth from 17 on that occasion and was far from off the pace there. He faced today’s rival Dutch Decoy in that contest and could be involved near the front again here.

The Gosdens’ Torito has been the leading contender on sports betting apps in the ante-post markets. Torito has won just five times, though two wins have already been secured at Nottingham and Epsom respectively.

The 4-year-old hasn’t seen action since June last year, but was gelded in December and could be open to progress today despite a lengthy lay off.

Stats and Insights

  • Paul Townend rode two Willie Mullins horses to victory on day four of the Punchestown Festival, and that pair will be targeting more success on the final day of the meeting. Mullins has won each of the last two renewals of the Ballymore Champion Four Year Old Hurdle, and eight of the last ten editions of the race overall.
  • At Goodwood, horses face one of the more unique settings across the UK circuit and most events there include tight turns and rapid downhill finishes. Trainers Andrew Balding, William Haggas and Richard Hannon have enjoyed success at Goodwood this term, while jockey Tom Marquand has ten wins there from 53 races this season.
  • The Rowley Mile at Newmarket is famously wide with an equally famous dip a few furlongs from the post. Some horses can toil over this part of the track, so entrants with previous experience at Newmarket can often be worth tracking. Jockey Oisin Orr has a fine 50%-win rate at Newmarket so far this season
