Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 02/11

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Saturday’s race card is an action-packed affair with six meetings across the UK and Ireland at Ascot, Ayr, Newmarket, Southwell, Wetherby and Down Royal to keep punters busy.

Yesterday, our hot streak continued when we tipped another two winners (Hawaii Du Mestivel, Uttoxeter & Brighterdaysahead, Down Royal), so let’s hope for more of the same in our latest trio of horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Goblet Of Fire – Wetherby, 15:32

Nicky Henderson’s Goblet Of Fire has shown plenty of promise on the flat this year and looked suited to the switch to jumping when finishing first at Southwell in a Class 4 Hurdle Handicap race at the end of October.

The 4-year-old moves up a grade and is 6lb higher for today’s run, but with James Bowen booked for the saddle, he could have what it takes to follow up.

Dan Skelton’s Williethebuilder has been the more fancied of the two on the best betting sites for horse racing meanwhile, and is likely to be heavily involved.

He’s raced just once in February, but posted a good second-place finish on that occasion at Wetherby and building on that performance, he could be open to more progression.

Best Tip #2: Rocheval – Ayr, 15:05

Rocheval is a lightly-raced but impressive performer who won back-to-back races at Aintree and Ayr last winter and again at Carlisle in spring over a similar trip.

Chasing a fourth win in as many outings today, the 4-year-old, who is trained by Lucinda Russell, has done little wrong so far and looks like the one to back on his handicapping debut back at Ayr in this Class 4 event.

Dance Thief meanwhile, has had only light backing in the ante-post shuffle, however, the 6-year-old returns to familiar surroundings today and three of his last four races in the spring were at Ayr.

Those jaunts came with a record of 3-1-3, so Dance Thief has previous endeavours to act as a guide today. He will need to be near his best to compete, but has an each-way opportunity.

Best Roughie: Theotherside – Southwell, 17:20

Scott Dixon has two largely unfancied entrants in today’s third race at Southwell, however, his 7-year-old charge, Theotherside, has some appeal at a big price on betting apps in the UK.

Southwell has been like a second home for Theotherside this year and in four races here since March, he finished 4-4-7-3. Down another 2lb in the ratings today, he could push into the frame to deliver a decent each-way return.

Michael Appleby’s Straight A could be the one to set the bar, however. He took a while to get going, however, the 3-year-old finally sparkled at Wolverhampton nine days ago to score over 7f ahead of eight others.

Still at a very low mark compared to his weight back in the spring, Straight A could have what it takes to mount another bold bid here.

Stats and Insights

  • There are long straights to power down at Wetherby, so horses with longer strides can often be the ones to back, even in jump races. Dan Skelton and Olly Murphy have been the most dominant trainers in the jumping sphere at Wetherby in recent seasons.
  • Ayr is a left-handed circuit with wide bends and nine fences per lap. Look out for the uphill sprint to the winning post. Jockeys Sean Quinlan, Derek Fox, Danny McMenamin and Conor O’Farrell all have good records at Ayr and are in action today.
  • The Fibresand surface at Southwell demands stamina from horses running on it, so look to the fittest contenders when picking selections. Trainer Michael Appleby has won an unmatched 77 races at Southwell over the last five seasons.
