Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 02/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There is a bumper race card to enjoy on Friday with meetings at Bath, Goodwood, Musselburgh, Newcastle, Newmarket, Southwell and Galway across the UK and Ireland combining to fill another action-packed day of racing. You know the drill by now – keep reading to view our latest horse racing betting tips for Friday’s events.

Best Tip #1:  Magic Gem – Southwell, 16:55

Magic Gem heads to Southwell in tip-top form having won back-to-back races at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford and still favourable treated, Michael Herrington’s charge is given the nod to complete his hattrick at Southwell.

His victory at Wolverhampton when last seen on July 1st delivered a win over 6f for the first time and competing over the same trip today, he could be difficult to stop.

Elsewhere, Run This Way has been shaping up like another contender with decent credentials.

He didn’t quite cut the mustard at Carlisle last time out, however, he strung together three wins on the spin before that over 6f and if that kind of form can be recaptured, he’s got to be a player here and is worth a market check on betting sites for horse racing.

Best Tip #2: Allonsy – Newmarket, 20:28

Allonsy has really clicked into gear since combining front-running tactics with the addition of cheekpieces and the hattrick hunter should set the standard for Ralph Beckett again in the day’s last race at Newmarket.

A winner over 1m 3f at Windsor and 1m 4f at Epsom since the end of June, the progressive 3-year-old has been penalised just 5lb by the hanidcappers and that rise might not be enough to slow her down.

Roger Varian’s Orchard Keeper also warrants respect. He delivered the goods on his turf/handicap debut at Newmarket in June and made all with room to spare in a five-horse event. Returning to the same venue today could make Orchard Keeper one to watch closely.

Dancingwithmyself who was a winner at Ripon last month could pose a challenge if he can manage the longer trip.

Best Roughie: Magnetic North – Galway, 20:40

The Hop House 13 Handicap on day four of the Galway Festival has some interesting prospects at bigger prices on betting apps, none more so than Magnetic North, who is taken to impress.

The 9-year-old knows what it takes to win having posted 11 victories in his time and he arrives at the big show today on the back of successive triumphs at Gowran Park and Ballinrobe. He’s more than capable of performing over today’s trip and has the potential to go well again.

JP O’Brien’s Mr Percy has been the ante-post favourite, however, he still has a bit to prove as a lightly-raced 3-year-old and better options are found elsewhere.

Not Just Any Eagle’s form has been solid this summer with a win at Cork in May his best effort so far. He has moved up just 2lb today and could ask questions of the more fancied combatants.

Stats and Insights

  • The Fibresand surface at Southwell is unique and deep, and horses with greater stamina tend to perform better on it. With 76 wins over the last five AW seasons, Michael Appleby has been the most dominant trainer at Southwell by a considerable distance.
  • Newmarket with its Rowley Mile is a wide track that gives horses plenty of room to manoeuvre, though the circuit’s infamous dip is a major examination of balance. Charlie Appleby has posted close to 100 wins at Newmarket over the last five campaigns, making him the most successful trainer there by a wide margin.
  • The runaround at Galway features testing turns and undulations, so faster horses can often be the ones to back. Yesterday, just one of the ante-post favourites won on day four of the Festival. Brave Crogha was a massive 200/1 winner in the Guinness Time INH Flat Race.
