Amongst the most memorable of recent renewals of this great race was the 2011 ‘Duel on the Downs’ when the great Frankel dispatched reigning champion Canford Cliffs. The late Sir Henry Cecil’s charge would emerge victorious again a year later and remains the only dual winner of the Sussex Stakes.
