The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup is a National Hunt which is the final event on Day Three of the world-famous Cheltenham Festival. This steeplechase is a race, especially for amateur riders. It’s The Cup, the Foxhunter Challenge and the National Hunt Chase are the festival’s only amateur races.
Originally named the Kim Muir Amateur Riders’ Steeplechase, the race dates back to 1946. Fulke Walwyn’s name (a famous trainer) was added to the event in 1991. While it’s not the highest-profile event of St. Patrick’s Day at Cheltenham, it nonetheless draws major attention from punters.
Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup: Tips and Predictions
Note: the predictions below refer to the 2021 running of this race – preview will be updated closer to the beginning of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.
A tough end to day three and a contest in which last-time-out Catterick scorer DIDERO VALLIS might outrun long odds for trainer Venetia Williams. He’s rated 1lb lower than when finishing fifth in 2019 Festival Plate over shorter and this sort of trip is his thing nowadays so he’s not without a squeak.
Mount Ida was a Grade 3 winner at Cork in December and finished second to talented Colreevy in a Thurles Grade 2 since. His point win and early hurdles form suggests he’s likely to flourish over this trip and Jack Kennedy could make it an opportune 2-2 for in the ‘amateur riders’ chases this week in the absence of those weighing room rivals at this unique Cheltenham Festival.
